Good Morning J., we didn't use the lesson's you are . We used PACE Accelerated Christian Educ. or ACE.
Pace means they go at their own Pace, get the lessons completed on our time frame. We did this from 4th & 6th grades through HS. Son's are grown now, one is a Electrician, the other is a Supervisor in Construction.

With CA do you have to mail in the lesson's or something? TO be graded?

With the ACE, there were normal subjects and each one had 12 books or lessons to complete. We picked out the extra lessons we wanted. When we first started with bought several yrs of lessons as our boys had learning gaps and we started one in 4th gr lessons and one in 5th gr. they completed 3 yrs of lessons in one yr.

At that time if the boys didn't catch a concept in school it was like to bad so sad were moving on. With ACE, we could take as long as we needed to for them to get it.

I wish I could help you more but I just do not know about the Connections Academy.

God Bless you and your efforts. I loved Homeschooling, especially teaching the boys math through baking, or teaching them tennis at the park, or golf. We went fishing for Nature science studies. Caught fish, found fossils, and plants we wanted to learn about.

Yes, I know what you mean, we too started late with ca, and have had a lot to do. Now we are getting caught up, and so it is a little less stress. I am at home with two children, K and 5th graders, so I try to incorparate the two lessons if I can. I do feel a bit stretched at times! lol

We homeschool, but we follow more of an unschooling philosophy - or child-directed learning. I have found that my sons learn sooooo much more that way! My five-year old is learning to read right now and my three-year old is spelling words on street signs. LOL. Just tonight at a dance class, my five-year old was telling one of the other moms there all about dinosaurs. I keep records through a portfolio, through my blog, and by writing down what activities we do each day. It's so much less stressful that way, and realy learning (not just learning long enough to pass a test) is truly happening.
(BTW - we're not of the no-makeup, no haircut group, either. Unless, of course, you count that my sons have mullets. LOL).

We did, last year. I ended up dropping it, it wasn't for us. The frustration you speak of was NOT what we were looking for. I understand free curriculum and thought I'd like someone else to do lesson planning but I didn't and it wasn't worth the price (monitarily or otherwise). My daughter is now 7 (8 in April). What other things are you involved in, interested in? Any area homeschool groups, activities??? You can contact me via email if you'd like. You crack me up with the sew your own clothes, hair/makeup thing - I know a great many homeschoolers - none that fit that mold (well, not entirely) although, I'd LOVE to be the sew our own clothes - if only I had that extra time and oh, the skill! :) Anyway, we do an adventure learning style and our school year is more Jan-Sept. although we do math and reading throughout the year. Right now is my "summer and planning" time. It can truly be a bit more fun to have small groups for some activities, so if you are nearby and interested we would love to meet and talk more about the possibilities! My teen just tried the MOVIP courses through the connections academy link, he found out it wasn't better for him. I will probably still sign him up for Spanish next semester, but that may be it?!
