Yesterday I took a HPT at 3pm after not going to the bathroom for several hours..it came back with a very very very faint pink line. So I took another one this morning at 5am to confirm it , after being up numerous times through out the night to go to the bathroom, that came back negative. Went to the Dr today they did a urine test which came back neg. however the doctor stated that I still could be because I had gone to the bathroom right before they ran the test...so I didn't get a for sure yes, or no...

Last time I had my period was the end of December, although had spotting mid January. I have had tenderness and sore breasts, nausea and going to bathroom a ton!! Prior to this I have always been very regular almost to the hour.... sooo confused.

What are your thoughts...?? What should I do?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Update...I'm still confused I have taken a few more Hpt all neg. however have not had a regular period yet...had some spotting that lasted a day and a half...(dark red, brown looking). I have also recently been having some clear nipple discharge, and recently have developed lower abdominal stretch marks however have not changed my diet or exercise routine... Not sure what to think. Please help!!!

Stress can delay ovulation and periods. I agree with Wild Woman's suggestion that if the blood test comes back negative, to test for a UTI. PMS can make some people nauseous, but a blood test is necessary to going forward if you are still not having a period in the next few days.

Give it a few days and take another test. I would think at this point a test would come up positive right away. With my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies my tests were positive RIGHT as I missed my period.
Good luck :)

You can also get HPTs at The Dollar store.

I suggest that if you're pregnant from December the line would be more definite. The very faint line could be the result of waiting too long to read the test. A line can appear after the 20 or so minutes recommended to reat it and not be an indication that you're pregnant. I have heard of so called false positives which were the result of not using the test the way it's directed to use it.

Since you're so concerned I'd first do a test the right way, with your first morning urine after a night of not urinating. If that is negative I'd expect that I wasn't pregnant. However, you could also make an appointment with your OB/GYN for a blood test. That is the most accurate way of knowing.

I would get a test and then make sure you don't go to the bathroom before doing it lol. Or ask the doctor to order a blood test. Hope you get the results your looking for.

Why didn't your doctor order a blood test?

That should give you a definitive answer.

You've taken enough urine tests. Why didn't the doctor take a blood test? That's the only way you're going to find out at this point unless you wait for a baby's head to crown.

Welcome to mamapedia!!

The doctor should have performed a blood test to rule it out or in.

It sounds like you have a bladder infection - frequent urination, nausea. Yes, also signs/symptoms of pregnancy.

instead of taking another urine test...go back for a blood test. If it is negative, ask to be checked for and treated for a bladder infection.

Good luck!

Maybe start with a new doctor who knows to do a blood test for pregnancy, not a urine test! You could easily have had a "for sure" answer. Why on earth did he or she just do a urine test and let you leave not knowing....?

Go back and demand a blood test.

Make sure your husband/boyfriend is on board so you have support.
Stress of thinking you MIGHT be pregnant because you really dont wanna be can make your period get whack.
Step up your birth control methods, dont have sex with guys you arent willing to share the rest of your life with... that's my advice.

I don't think a false positive is possible bc the hormone wouldn't be in your system for the test to detect. False neg, yes, but not false positive.

I would get these super cheap, very sensitive tests and check on your own over the next week and see if you notice the line getting darker.

*If you're trying to conceive, get these! The drugstore tests are a huge rip-off!

Good luck!

Doctors do urine tests for pregnancy? Obviously anybody can do that. How about a blood test? I think you need a different doctor.

if the urine test is negative.. you could still be pregnant and the hormone is nto high enough to detect.

the blood test is absolutely accurate.. if you need to know ask for a blood test. but if your period is a month late and you are not + on a urine test .. i bet you are not preg..

Well, given that your period is now over a month late (it should have come at the end of January, right?), if it was late because of pregnancy your hormone levels should be high enough at this point to get a positive test result with or without "first morning urine."

Urine tests at the doctors office actually IS pretty standard. It's less invasive and faster than blood tests, so it's kind of the go-to test. Your doctor can ORDER you a blood test if things are inconclusive.

I doubt you're pregnant. Tender breasts and nausea are symptoms of just about EVERY hormonally weird things, including pregnancy but also weird changes to your normal cycle (which seems like what you're dealing with).

Well I had this happen recently actually, always super regular, then craziness very suddenly. I had a cycle where I had a faint line, hubby saw it and everything, then every test after that was negative. Period did not show up, I got a blood test and it was negative. A bit later I had a period. So that can happen, I don't have a clue why. Good luck, I hope it all goes how you are hoping it will!
