Have you had any blood work done? Resent research has shown that woman who have a clotting disorder have a hard time staying pregnant b/c a clot can clog off the placenta from getting adequate blood supply. this is one factor out of many. good luck!

Hi S.,
I am a clinical herbalist and specialize in a form of massage called Mayan Abdominal Massage. I work primarily with women's reproductive health and fetility. There are options for you to use herbal medicine that support healthy cycles and that enhance fertility. The massage is focused on aligning the uterus properly within the pelvic bowl to support the circulation and hormonal flow to the ovaries and the uterus.
During a consultation we will look at your cycle patterns and identify your fertile signs, we will create an herbal formula specific to your body and you will receive the uterine massage. I also teach you self-care massage techniques for you to practice on yourself at home to maintain the process we begin together.
These appointments are scheduled according to what you want to do. Women usually conceive within one month to 6 months after beginning the work. Usually it takes about three months for our bodies to change and create healthy hormonal rhythms that will maintain themselves when pregnant.
I also work closely with families who use enhanced fertility treatments so I am well informed on the various protocols and drugs that are used.
Because each woman is unique, our cycles vary greatly, so is will be to your advantage to work with someone who can read the fertility sign easily and assist you accordingly.
My clinic is in Denver, Colorado and I also offer phone consultations for women who live outside of Denver. Please feel free to contact me directly thru Mama Source or you can cal me at ###-###-####. Be well, L. Golub Clinical Herbalist

Hi,
I tried a few things when conceiveing my daughter, so I guess they worked. All of the ideas I will share with you I got from fertility threads etc on the internet, so you may have heard this already:

I used Fertility Blend a supplement from GNC--take it every day for the month you're trying to conceive, and then buy another bottle for the next month if it doesn't work that month.

I took Robitussin (just regular kind-DM I think). 3 times a day to increase cervical mucus.

I took Evening Primrose Oil 1,000 IU/day Cycle day 1 to Ovulation. (can't remember exactly what this does)

I took Flax Seed Oil 2,000 mg day from Ovulation until my period started or was expected. (can't remember what this does)

I sucked egg whites into a syringe and squirted them in my vagina before intercourse to play the role of cervical mucus. I don't think I used much--a little goes a long way. There is the risk of salmonella infection with this I took the risk, but you can get pasteurized eggs to avoid the risk.

I put myself up on a pillow after intercourse for like 30 minutes to keep the stuff from falling out.

I meditated twice a day to stay relaxed while trying to conceive.

Good luck!

Has your doctor given you chlomid? That is the common fertility pill that most doctors use. It is prescription, but most docs will prescribe it after 6 mo of trying and not conceiving. If you do go the doc route and need some names I can give you some.

HI, Have you been trying to get pregnant? My sister in law had to have help from the DR. the first time and now they have 4 kids. I had a miscarrage the first time and it was extra hard because it took so long to get pregnant. My DR. said be careful some women have a hard time the first time, but when your body figures out how to do it no telling what can happen. We have 3 kids now. So before you try a bunch of potions and pills try getting pregnant the old fashion way. Be sure to make it fun so it doesn't seem like work. Good Luck.

Give the OV Watch a try. We used it and it helped predict my cycle - ended up getting pregnant two months after buying it. Its amazing how "off" you can be from what is generally considered standard for the best timing. Worked great for us and for a friend of ours.

As for herbs there's no compelling evidence, even with all the studies, that they can help improve fertility. Red Raspberry Leaf Tea does help strengthen and tone though (causes mini muscle contractions) so it can help and can hurt depending, so people don't recommend taking it in the first three months from what I've read.

I believe there is evidence that regular exercise can improve fertility of both men and women.

I did Tai Chi and water aerobics and that helped me feel great if nothing else. I believe being flexible and in shape definitely helped the birthing process, but that's just my experience.

Oh, and the Robitussin thing has been verified, so that can help too if your problem is mucosal.

Hi S.,

It looks like you have received some great advice!

If your liver is congested or off balance, it can cause your hormones to be "off". If you are not breastfeeding you can do a liver cleanse, (which does wonders for your skin too!).

Stress can also cause a lot of health issues, including difficulty in conceiving. Journaling is a great tool, as is meditation and deep breathing.

I would be happy to chat with you more about this if you would like.

Best of health,
R. P www.myherblady.com

I don't know of any homeopathic approaches. The good news is that you've been able to conceive once and so you should be able to conceive again. I was able to conceive naturally with my first child. It took about 3 months to conceive. With my second child it took over a year. And we had to have medical help. Make sure that you and your husband are in good health. You should both get physicals. Run tests that could determine if there is anything hindering the process. Eat well. Get plenty of excercise --- but don't overdo the exercising. Relax. Avoid stress. Get rest (Right! With a 10 month old!?!?). Take a vacation. Have a lot of sex (Right! With a 10 month old!?!?) Be patient and let nature take it's course. If you are not patient --- I would take the route of medical assistance. You have to have tried for at least a year before a doctor is going to help. I cried every month that I got my period after trying for so long. My mother advised me. So, what's the worse case scenario? You can't get pregnant again? Well, you have one beautiful child that you should be thankful for. Are you happy with one child if you can't have a second? I wasn't. I decided I would adopt if I couldn't conceive a second time. That thought process took the pressure off of me to get pregnant. Which enabled me to get pregnant. The mind is a funny thing. It has a lot of power. You could be your own worst enemy. Be kind to yourself. Things happen for a reason. Think positive thoughts. Let go of your control issues (We all have control issues). This is something you can't control. Be thankful for what you already have. I wish you the best.

I had been trying about 8 months when I gave up and thought the child that is meant for me will come in it's own time. I still tried, but only about two weeks after my period started. I didn't try hard, and forgot about counting anything or even expecting to get pregnant. I settled for being happy with the two children I already have.

Two months later, I went to the doctor for what I thought was a bladder infection. Turned out I was pregnant! That's how much I actually gave up!

I have other friends who were trying and got pregnant when they stopped trying and a few others who have other health problems and can't conceive.

Keep trying (sort of), but take the pressure off. "Give up" and try to be satisfied with the beautiful child you have now. In a few months, you may have a little surprise!

I had trouble conceiving my daughter - used a pergonal and clomid cocktail to eventually conceive (without AI or any docs office, outside of the drugs) and it was intensely stressful to think I might not ever have a child - but she is now 5 and a bundle of energy and love. My son, who is now 2, was simple to conceive - so I thought I was "fixed" - NOW, I am being greedy and would like a third, and I am back to square one as I was with my daughter.

My advice is give it a little time - your current baby is 10 mos old and there might be variables (I bf my daugter until she was 22 mos and didn't get my period until I completely weaned her) and at 10 mos, your full fertility may have just not returned. I know your frustration, trust me, but remember to enjoy what you have (I always have to remind myself of this too - b/c I do enjoy them)!

It also took me several years to concieve my first, and also took me over a yr. to conceive my 2nd. They will be 4 yrs. apart, I am being induced on Thurs.
I ended up having to take clomid this time around, for about 10 mos. and did about 8 inseminations- none worked. I then moved on to the shot, did another insem. it did not work, and the next month concieved at home on our own. I think the shot helped a lot for that.
I also had that HSG done, to check the flow of my tubes, which they were fine.
I feel for you. A lot of money, and time... Not to mention, blood, sweat, and tears.
If you need any numbers, let me know. I have 2 specialists!

MY advice is to ignore most of the other posts posted here (although I do like "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" and recommend that too) and follow your gut instincts. If you have already experienced 3 years with infertility (and that's plenty for anyone) than you probably already know about many of the things mentioned here. And you've probably tried many of them. There is nothing wrong with looking for other ways that work but I think you are wise to start now. No one ever regretted looking for help too soon.

Intended for Pleasure by Dr. Ed Wheat had a chapter that we found helpful. We did the laying on the back thing with both our boys. I had a doctor recommend aspirin as he felt I was actually getting pregnant and loosing the baby before I even missed my period. Seems to have helped with #2. Don't dispair. After being told I should never have been able to have #1 and that it would never happen again, I'm now almost 7 months along with #3. So much for trustingthat doctor on birth control ideas! :) We wouldn't change anything, though. After many tests, it does seems that miscarriages are my issue, not getting pregnant, I just lost them at around 4 weeks, so didn't know it. As long as I treat the cause of the miscarriages with aspirin, it seems to not be a problem. GL I hope it happens easily for you this time! In the mean time, have fun trying!

S.,

After 5 years TTC, we ended up having to do in-vitro, with only a 30% chance of getting pregnant (this was after other surgeries to treat endo and the use of Clomid). That was with our first child.

I just had my second child and we got pregnant naturally!! I was taking Vitex and drinking Red Raspberry Leaf Tea daily(it has to be leaf, not just raspberry tea). I had takent he RRL tea during the end of my first pregnancy, because it is supposed to help with strengthening and toning the uterine muscles, but I discovered later that it also had uses as a fertility aid, including that strengthening. We had been trying for several months before I discovered these two things, and within one month of starting them together, I was pregnant! It wasn't supposed to be able to happen naturally!!

I hope something works for you. I was able to find both of the above items at an organic grocery, though the RRL tea was also at the normal supermarket.

I have struggled with infertility for years. With my first son I had to do AI many times and it never worked. After a year of fertility treatments we gave up and went on a vacation and got pregnant on our own. I think the stress of trying contributes to infertility. I am now 15 weeks pregnant with my second and this time around I just got on clomid and told my husband that we are having sex every other day until I am pregnant. That is the key I think. I got pregnant on my first round of clomid, but I didn't ovulate until day 50. If I had been doing the normal intercourse every other day from day 11 to 19 like the Dr.s say I would have missed it. Good Luck!!
