Depends what you like to do? Downhill mountain biking, museums, rafting, kayaking, gambling, riding the railways, swimming, hiking, rolling down sand dunes, exploring the canyon bottoms, driving to the tops of mountain peaks, backpacking or camping or car camping or RVing, 4 star hotels, city or country, picking fruit in an orchard, visiting a winery, skiing, snowshoeing, ice climbing, motorcycling, road biking, shopping in a mall or boutiques in the mountain towns, cross country skiing, alpine slide or tubing, pricey restaurants or dives....there is so much to do here and there is so much variety depending on whether your into adventure travel or nicer places.

Hi -
Okay - I think Breckenridge would be fun. It feels more like a "mountain town" than Estes Park since much of Estes is pretty new, plus the ski lodge is there if your kids are old enough to enjoy SOME of that. You can google it. You may also be able to get a shuttle so you don't have to (potentially) drive in snow.

It may not snow in Denver but there is the zoo, the Natural History Museum, the Forney Museum, and well, that list goes on. There is also the nearby Morrison Museum, if you have someone into dinosaurs. It's pretty much a small house and is very hand's on. The director, Matt, is a pretty famous paleontologist to boot and if he's there, he LOVES to give little kids "the tour." You can also walk Red Rocks as part of that day trip and eat at the Blue Cow in the town of Morrison. Morrison probably doesn't offer enough for kids to STAY there, but it could be a ton of fun for a day. Check out Heritage Square too (in the Morisson/Golden area). Probably the rides will be shut down for winter, but there will be shopping and maybe a play.

Golden is fun and is pretty low key. Not a huge amount for little kids to do, but an easy place to be, downtwon is very walkable, and it's convenient to the mountains and Denver. Also a good one to Google. The train museum is in Golden (you can't walk there though). Lookout Mountain is a pretty easy drive in Golden and the Buffalo Bill museum and grave is worth a look.

If you are more likely to fly into Colorado Springs, go to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and feed the giraffes. You might want to go into Woodland Park to the Dinosaur Resource Center (yes, I have had a dinosaur themed life lately). Monarch would be the ski area to check out. Garden of the Gods is not to miss if you are in that area.

My personal favorite mountain town is Steamboat Springs, but that's a hella drive from anywhere, and if you aren't used to snow, you do NOT want to do that one!

If you Google "Kids Colorado" and find some things that look like what you want, feel free to shoot me a message. If we've done it, I'll tell you what I think! My kids are 6, 2, and 11 months.

Some of our favorite places in the state are: Pagosa Springs, Durango, Telluride, Ft. Collins, Colorado Springs (Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge, Broadmoor) but Colorado Springs is better suited for warmer weather, lots to do outdoors which is hard with little ones when it is cold. Not sure what you have in mind for accommodations but we have had amazing luck with VRBO rentals in the mentioned areas.

Check out Keystone. It's so much fun there and a great place for families. I live in Florida now too but I lived in Colorado before I moved here. I just looked on Keystone's website and it looks like they even have a lot more family stuff than the last time I was there, which was quite a few years ago. I'm so jealous of you. Wish I could go back to Colorado too!

Some of the activities Keystone has to offer:
Skiing
Ice Skating
Tubing
Sleigh Rides
Snowshoeing
Gondola Rides
Snow Mobiling
Snow Biking

They even have special family themed "Kidtopia" weeks with even more activities for kids (arts, crafts, music and a giant snow fort).

I have a 4-year old and if I could take her on a winter trip to Colorado it would definitely be to Keystone.

I went to Colorado when I was younger and The Pope was there. We went to the Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak and the bridge (I forget the name). I didn't walk across it but it was fun. The landscape is beautiful and the people are so nice. Have a fun trip!

Estes Park!!! Its the one of the best little Mountin towns. There are neet little shops in town, and filled with friendly people!! You have a wide choice of lodging From little cabins on Fall River to the Stanley (the hotel that the Stephen Kings Shinning is based on...truly a very pretty place). You are close to Loveland and an easy drive to Denver. However, if you are going in late winter or eirly spring you could (and most likely will) get a lot of snow, and the roads could close and or get very Icy.
You can never go wrong with Denver. More thing to do there than you can shake a stik at.
Colorado spring is ok in my book, however when we are in that part od Colorado we like to stay at Maniou Springs. A bit off the beation path but VERY easy to get to the Cogg Rail that takes you up to the top od Pikes Peak. The down fall there is that there arnt a lot of places to stay.
Email me if you like. I am more than willing to help in anyway I can with giving my oppion on places. Truly the time of year your plaining on is going to make a BIG differance.
I hope this helped!!
