use gas drops...

talk to your doc too-

could be reflux...
if it's reflux then they can prescribe something that will help (a ton)

2nd daughter had reflux. thank god for the meds. she would cry after eating, cry when we laid her down, gassy and fussy all the time....

best wishes-

I used gripe water and it worked most of the time. What also worked tremendously was to wear my baby in a Baby Bjorn. Some babies need to be worn to feel content and happy.

Best of luck to you and your little one.

One thing to TRY is burping them for an hour or so after every feeding.

Just grab a book, get comfy, put them over your shoulder and pat their backs while reading.

This is a 'my son' trick. Colicky baby + exhausted mama + trying to stay awake by reading a book. He burped, I noticed, but I was in a good part of my book. So I kept reading and patting because I was too tired to stand up/ really pay attention. Exciting part of the book nearly done and

BWaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaRRRRRRWWWAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaawp!

Dinosaur burp in my hear.

What the heck??? How does that much air FIT INSIDE YOU???

And that just ended up being true for him. If I quit at the first normal sized burp, by the end of the day he was a MESS. Just an absolute mess. And mama was a hot mess. But if I nursed, and then did 'marathon burping', happiest baby ever.

I went through a LOT of books while he was an infant. More than 75. (One 50+ book series, and a couple of smaller series). Babysitting was hard, because I could never convince anyone in my family to burp him forever to get the dinosaur burp out of him. So I knew I'd have Mr. Cranky that night/ the next day.

Some of my friends with colicky babies have switched to marathon burping and gotten PEACE, glorious peace... others have tried and extra air wasn't their issue.

I don't know anyone who has used the gripe water, but Riley is right, some babies get tremendous relief from long sessions of upright patting, until they get all those burps out.

Here's another approach that may give your and your baby a break. Dr. Harvey Karp, author of The Happiest Baby on the Block, explains in these short videos why he calls the first 3 months the Fourth Trimester, and how to help them relax during this sometimes-difficult transition period:

I used gripe water with both my girls. For their normal gas issues it was GREAT!!! Worked every time like a charm. When it was more colic, then that was a whole other thing, it would work, but NOT as well. I was lucky and did not have any reflux babies. Too bad gripe water doesnt work on cranky 5 and 6 year olds lol

It could be a milk intolerance - kind of like a dairy allergy, but the child usually out grows it by age 2.

It could be a milk imbalance - getting too much fore milk if you are breast feeding.

And then again it could be reflux.

In any case I would consult your pediatrician. If baby is most fussy just following feedings and gas drops don't work, I would definitely be asking for reflux medication. I had 2 severe reflux babies who were also intolerant of dairy. It was a challenge, but we made it and they are now 6 & 13.

I would have it investigated first ... is there a chance of GERD or Acid Reflux? Below are two definitions of Colic ... there is always a reason in my opinion ... babies do not "just cry" per our pedi more and more "colcky" babies suffer from acid reflux from minor to major (my son) ... get it checked out.
Colic (also known as infant colic, three month colic, and Infantile colic) is a condition in which an otherwise healthy baby cries or screams frequently and, for extended periods, without any discernible reason.
col·ic (klk)
n.
1. Severe abdominal pain caused by spasm, obstruction, or distention of any of the hollow viscera, such as the intestines.
2. A condition of unknown cause seen in infants less than three months old, marked by periods of inconsolable crying lasting for hours at a time for at least three weeks.
