Colic Calm is a great homeopathic option. It works wonders! Zantac should only be given by prescription and only for GERD (which doesn't sound like what you're describing).

I would definitely NOT advise giving Zantac for an infant unless they have been officially diagnosed with GERD (acid reflux).

Colic has no known cause, and babies have to outgrow it.

Zantac is an H2 antagonist - it works by basically blocking stomach acid from being over productive. Having been in the pharmaceutical industry a LONG time and having sold GERD medications (as well as having a husband who has), I'd strongly encourage you to speak with the pediatrician before giving anything for colic.

It tests you every moment of every day, but infants can't process medications like adults can, and while being over the counter, it doesn't make it safe.

Good luck.

I would talk to the doctor. Are you sure it is colic? I have had two spitty babies. Nothing is wrong with them and they didn't need to be medicated, but they spit up ALOT!

Here's the good news. Colic typically peaks at 6 weeks and then gets better until it's almost gone by 3-4 months. Pick up Happiest Baby on the Block quickly! It'll reassure you and teach you about colic and 5 quick ways to soothe it, which don't involve medicine. We went through this with our daughter and wish we had read the book earlier. Good luck, it WILL get better soon.

Google colic calm. I believe the website is http://www.coliccalm.com

We used this product for my daughter. It's homeopathic and safe for babies. Based on some of the responses you've received, I would like to add that our ped knew we tried colic calm but wasn't pleased with us trying a homeopathic. Ped wrote prescription and pushed for us to use the reflux meds to see if we noticed a difference. Troubleshooting...it's what it's called. Our ped didn't know if it was colic or reflux but requested we go with the prescription mainly because she didn't know much about the homeopathic. Based on our research of both, we chose the homeopathic as our starting point and were pleased with the results. Never used the prescription and things improved. At our follow up, our ped refused to acknowledge the the colic calm helped...

We recently moved to another state and I requested copies of all our children's medical records. In reading through the ped notes, it was never noted that we used colic calm and had positive results. It was noted though that we refused a prescription for zantac.

Use your best judgement, K., and research the pros and cons of both. In my experience, I've found peds who are quick to over-medicate, over diagnose and over treat because it's what they know. Our bodies are amazing and can heal themselves when given the right support/tools.

Hang in there

Hello

Zantac does work however its for the acid reflux my daughter had that as well and for the spit up trying changing her milk and putting cereal so it would make it thicker and it will stay down. Your daughter is probably crying because of the acid reflux not cause shes colic. She will grow out of it around 6 months but the zantac should help her. It helped my daughter.

Both of my children needed prevacid as infants for reflux, but I wouldn't recommend giving any meds until you speak with your pediatrician.

Definitely check with your pediatrician before giving her any natural remedies or other medications. You may just be able to feed her less and burp her more. Try sitting her up, "flying", or laying her over your lap to burp her after 4 oz. or one "side" if your breastfeeding. Keep her sitting up for 1/2 hour after feeding her. My friend held her baby off for an extra 1/2 hour so she ate every 2 1/2 to 3 hours instead of more frequently and the baby spit up less.

That would definitely be a question to ask of your child's pediatrician. Consulting a medical professional before giving your young infant child any sort of medicine is highly recommended. Also, please be advised that nearly every child has mild spit up from time to time.

Talk to your dr, it could be reflux, in which case a little single grain rice cereal would work perfectly in her bottles. It could possibly be colic, (my daughter had both) if thats the case, switch her to nutramigen formula & still put a little cereal in her bottles. as soon as i switched my daughter her colic went away within id say 2 or 3 days. as soon as her tummy got used to the new formula and got all the old stuff out.
