Cold, White Light?

two days ago, my 6 1/5 year old son said that he was afraid to sleep in his bed because a white light and a cold breeze kept going past him. i didn't think anything of it, i just figured it was an excuse to get into bed with me and his father. last night he told me that after recess at school, a white light came into his class room, stood next to his teacher, and gave the teacher the finger. i'm not quite sure what to think. my father in law passed away this past october and he took it kind of hard. i'm not really one to believe to really believe in ghosts, although i do occasionally find myself questioning noises and other things around me. i guess my main questions are should i be concerned? what should i do? i don't want him to be afraid of this 'white light' but i don't want to feed into his fear and let him continue sleeping with me. i'm just a little shocked that my 6 year would come up with something like that.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

something i forgot to mention. his whenever my son was sad or upset about something, my father in law would make faces and stick up his middle finger at what ever was making my son upset. this would get my son to laugh and not be upset anymore. he just recently had his eyes checked also.

THE FACT THAT WHATEVER THIS COLD WHITE LIGHT IS, IT IS SCARING HIM. YOU SHOULD TALK TO HIM MORE ABOUT IT. WHEN YOUR SON TELLS YOU ABOUT THIS I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD BELIEVE HIM AND ENCOURAGE HIM NOT TO BE SCARED. ARE YOU A CHRISTIAN, IF SO OR IF NOT YOU SHOULD PRAY ABOUT THIS ALSO. GOD ANSWERS ALL PRAYERS SOONER OR LATER. HE MAY JUST GIVE YOU THE ANSWER TO SOLVING THIS PROBLEM. I DO REALLY THINK IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOUR SON CAN TALK TO YOU ABOUT THIS, ENCOURAGE HIM TO TELL YOU WHEN HE SEES THE COLD WHITE LIGHT. MAYBE HE IS MAKING IT UP. IF THERE IS SOME KIND OF PATTERN TO WHEN HE SEES THE COLD WHITE LIGHT IT MAY SHED SOME LIGHT ON WHY HE WOULD BE MAKING IT UP...IF HE IS.
ALSO, CONSIDER TALKING TO THE SCHOOL'S GUIDANCE COUNSELOR, IF THIS PROBLEM DOESN'T DISSAPATE SOON THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR MAY HAVE WANT TO TALK TO HIM ABOUT IT OR HE/SHE MAY HAVE SOME FURTHER SUGGESTIONS FOR YOU.
I HOPE I WAS OF SOME HELP. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT GOD FEEL FREE TO HIT ME UP WITH SOME QUESTIONS.
TAKE CARE,
A.

I agree with Lexy - start with your son having a full physical and complete eye exam. These will rule out any physical abnormalities. If everything comes out okay, and you don't want to frighten him, then you can just tell him (for now) that his eyes are playing tricks on him. If it continues (e.g. for years), then you could always call a paranormal investigator. I'm not usually one to jump to the latter, but when there are no explanations, this can help. Please keep us up to date on how things develop.

would letting him sleep on the floor in your room be acceptable, if he's truly scared? that way there you still have your own space but he knows he has a "safe place" to go if scared. also Sylvia Browne from the Montel Williams show deals with this alot. she always says to tell the "white light" to go to god. (i've seen one too many:)!)good luck

Hello S.,

It is very possible that your son is seeing your father-in-law, as you said he took it hard. They say that children can see more around them than adults can. Take a browse around the initernet, it is been proven that children and dogs see ghosts, and most adults can not.

post 2. You know maybe it is your father as this "light" you never know. He could be your sons angel sent back to watch over him. I don't really know. I'm not a big believer in ghost only because I haven't seen any.

post 1. Oh My Gosh. I started reading this and got goose bumps from head to toe.

I would talk to you sons doctor about this on.
Question? Has he had his eyes looked at?
I just don’t think white light could flip the bird. But I also think that he is six and really is too old to want to sleep with mommy and daddy.

I agree with the rest of them. It could be an imaginary friend, which is your son and he could be acting out. I would ask him why does he think the light is following him to school? perhaps even ask him radomly ....is the light here now...say when you are driving or when he is watching TV or at supper, ask if he thinks it is his grandfather and if he says yes ask why he feels that way...does it feel like him, does he smell him?. At first I thought of the aura you get with headaches or migraines, it's rare in someone that age but possible to get migraines. it is aslo extremely possible for him to feeling and seeing the spirit of your father in law. when my mum passed away my youngest said a while "flicker" light came in his room, needless to say, I was astonished when HE told me not to be worried cause that it was memere, i asked him if she spoke to him and he said no sje just waited until he was asleep and left. . anything is possible. he is at an impretional age. be careful he may try to use it to his advantage by sleeping with you, reassure him that his home is safe from harm. best of luck. cant wait to hear how you made out.

I would definately question your son further about the "light". Does it have a name? What does it look like? There certainly must be more to it for a "light" to have a middle finger. It could be an imaginary friend or it could be something paranormal. I would have him checked out by the pediatrician to make sure something medical isn't causing this and then it couldn't hurt to talk with one of those guys from the TAPS show since they are local. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Here are links:

S.,
When my son was 2, my sister passed away. Shortly after, I was dreaming about her as a ghost- she was all white and ghostly and light. In my dream, I was thinking how I knew who she was, so I was not afraid, but that my son would be. At that moment, no kidding, he woke up screaming "Mommy the ghost is gonna get me!" I reassured him that all was well, and a couple of days later he told me there was an angel in his bed. I truly believe he was seeing my sister, that she was watching over him. She never gave anyone the finger, though;) I would talk to your son about the light, find out what he's thinking is going on, and help him find a way to see it as special that he can see it and nobody else can.

I do believe in ghosts.. there are good ones all over the place and if you recently lost someone, I think it could be that person trying to say goodbye to your son.. there's a placein Beverly, The Healing Haven, that has a medium that will work with you and your son to try to figure this stuff out.. Try calling them and asking them about it.. Kids do have a different "sense" about things so I would check into it..kids don't just come up with stuff like that. good luck...

Stephnie,

I have looked at some of the responses and felt I should write. It is possible for your son to be seeing someone. It isn't necessarily your father-in-law. The only reason I say that is because I don't think your father-in-law would give the teacher the finger. The only thing to do is to try to talk to him about not being afraid of the light. Try putting him to bed but stay with him. Then slowly leave. This way he may start to accept that this light is ok. As one person said there are reports that kids are able to see more than adults. Just be patient with him. Just because we can't always see these things doesn't mean they don't exist.
