So What Happened?

well it's allergies .. I ended up going to urgent care this afternoon because I just couldn't take it anymore and the Tylenol Sinus/Cold medicine was not helping. They gave me a prescribtion for Zyrtec and Ammoxacilin (sp) I am only going to take the Amox. since I know the Zyrtec will dry me all out and I don't need my milk supply to run out. Thanks to all everyone who shared their advise.

Hi,
I know you will probably think I am crazey but here it goes..... 1 go get you some yogurt make sure it has active yogurt cultures in it, eat one thing a day for a week your infection will be gone. 2 go get you a netti pot I think is what they are called, you can get them at CVS and Walgreens. You flush out your sinuses with it. I don't like to use medications when I'm pregant so i'm sure it will help with the BF. Hope this helps you W.

I have a virus from my older children that causes a sore throat, ear aches, congestion, etc. and I am not sleeping. I am desperate but not if it will dry my milk up. Will Tylenol cold and Sinus dry up my milk?

Mucinex and plain sudafed are safe for the baby but it will dry up your milk...any decongestant will as far as I know. Delsym is a good expectorant that I used last week for some coughing and mucus in my throat and it didn't affect my milk supply any. Unfortunately the 2 general practioner's I've seen since I've had the baby (6 months ago) have told me to take mucinex several times and I'm the one who has to remind them that even though it's safe, it will dry up the milk. Hope that helps some...Good luck!

My doctor allows basically anything Tylenol brand, and the equivalent in the generic brand like Equate brand at Walmart.

M.-
Congratulations on your first baby! You might call your doctor, or ask at the pharmacy, but anything by Tylenol is OK to take. If it gets bad enough, call your ob/gyn and they will prescribe a z-pac for you (antibiotic). I had the same problem in May while I was breastfeeding.
Good luck and feel better!!!

Sudafed I believe is safe, plain robitussin...but anything used to dry up sinus issues will affect your milk supply. Take as little as needed. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi M.,

It won't cure it but it helps, I used to take mint tea, it helps with sinus and headaches. With a little honey and lemon if you like.

Hope it helps since I used to work at a children's after school program with little ones and I sent my whole preganancy like that! Ugh!

Feel better soon!

Just call your doctor's office and the nurse can let you know what is safe.

I have taken Tylenol Multisymptom allergy relief. It works well and the pharmacist said that it would keep my daughter awake if I took it, but otherwise would be okay to take. She doesn't actually seemd bothered by it at all when I use it.
