Does anyone have any ideas on whta i should to with these overly active kids. I am the babysitter so i cant take them off the property. The older one is obsessed with everything to do with fire.

If the couch cushions come off, take them off and build tunnels, forts, etc with them. Make it firehouse themed if you want - say they have to crawl into the "burning building" to put out the fire.

Fireman Sam - great firefighter series for kids that age - my son loved him when he was three. We had it on-demand on the PBS Kids Sprout channel.

Make a pretend hose out of rope or paper towel tubes or whatnot. Pretend to put out fires all around. Designate a couch to be the firetruck. Designate a room to be the firehouse. Have them wait to hear an alarm (ie you) and then they have to pretend to put on boots, jacket, etc and get in firetruck and "drive" to fire. Then put fire out with pretend hose. Then drive back to firehouse and have them "make dinner" and go to sleep. Dont forget to have a place (door jam maybe) that htey can pretend to slide down a pole (ie just move from standing to squatting while pretending to hold on).

Cut out the shape of a firetruck from construction paper and have them use crayons, paint, stickers, etc to decorate it.

Call the local fire dept and ask if you can bring the kids for a visit, I'm sure they will allow it.
Take them to the library (or bookstore) and read books about firefighters.
Bundle them up and run them around outdide...I have two high energy boys and they love running around outside even on cold days!

Bundle up and get outside. I'm not a cold-weather person, but I find if I put on snow pants, mittens, hat, etc. I am able to stay warm and enjoy playing outside.
Good luck,

My son was a huge fire truck fanatic at that age. We had it all. His coat was a child sized turn out coat. He had fireman rain boots. For Halloween he was a Fireman complete with a visor-ed helmet, pants with reflector strips and suspenders and a little fire extinguisher that squirted water. Get on Amazon and search on 'fire trucks DVD'. You'll find plenty of them to pick from. Fire truck books - check out the library or book store. You'll find picture books, pop-up books, etc. At 3 yrs old, my son could tell the difference between a pumper truck and a ladder truck, and he could tell you why ladder trucks use out-riggers.
Also, you can get some cardboard boxes and decorate them as firetrucks for the kids to play in. It's cheap and they'll play with them till they fall apart. teach them about 'Stop. Drop. And Roll'. You can play it as a game and it's great exercise for kids that age. With a few props and enough play, you can have them be fire safety experts and they'll never know they are learning!

I see that you can't take the boys out, so I would suggest looking online at the "on demand" movies. See if there is a related movie. Make hot chocolate and snuggle in. My 2 yr old is very active as well, but LOVES the Rudolf movie (yes, the original Burl Ives version). This weekend we made hot cocoa and watched the whole thing- 45 minutes of quiet interest.

The Lego website also has a great section of "preschool" games that have "fireman" simulation games. My son loves this website and plays on it with my husband at night. They will need an adult b/c the games have some reading, but worth it!
