Help! On Saturday, my husband spilled a cup of coffee all over our new, light grey carpet. I tried treating it with Bissell's stain remover, but it didn't work and now we're left with a stain that looks like our pet peed on it! Does anyone have any tips that might work, please??

What can I do next?

I highly recommend Spot Shot. It works on everything, even red wine. You can get it at Meijer. We bought a big pack of it at Costco too and it's well worth the money.

Hi J.
I am retired now, but we owned and operated a carpet cleaning business and I say use a tide stick or a good stain remover for clothing. Best of luck N.
PS there is a commerial product that you spray on and place a wet towel on the stain and use a hot iron on the towel to remove stain, but it is usually for coolaid.

I love Spot Shot! It takes out nearly anything and does not affect color. I have used in on nearly every stain on my carpeting. And, I have colors that range from dark green to dark red to light blue. It comes in an orange can with blue lettering and can be found with floor and carpet cleaning products. It only comes in a spray. I hope this helps. It got hot chocolate and cola out of my light green carpet. :)

I was able to get a coffee stain out of berber carpet without a problem with Oxyclean. Ok, there was one little problem...it got the stain out so well that the rest of the carpet looked filthy. So, I rented a cleaner at the grocery store and had to do the whole room.

Have you tired just vinegar or even baking soda and vinegar? This works wonders on my cream carpet when we have our spills (or the cat vomits.).

try peroxide. It gets blood out instantly, it might work on coffee. Hairstray might work to.

If you go to HomeDepot or Lowes they have a carpet cleaning system called "Capture". It is a spray and powder. You spray the fluid onto the floor in the spot that was affected. Then sprinkle the powder on and scrub it in. Let it dry for about 15-20 minutes and then vaccume it up. I get this as a house warming gift for everyone. It has gotten coffee, tomato soup, and dark beer out of white carpet. Sometimes you have to repeat the process depending on the depth of the spill. This is a "dry cleaning" system so the spot doesn't reappear in time. Good luck!

I found this online and did something similar when my son spilled a red drink on our carpet. Good luck!!

Step1 Blot the area with a clean, white cloth to absorb all the liquid you can. Blot from the outside of the stain in to avoid spreading the stain.

Step2 Mix 1 teaspoon clear, mild liquid dish washing detergent with 1 cup lukewarm water.

Step3 Sponge the area with the detergent solution. Blot again with a clean, white cloth.

Step4 Mix 1/3 cup white vinegar with 2/3 cup lukewarm water.

Step5 Sponge the area with the vinegar solution. Blot with a clean, white cloth.

Step6 Sponge the area with clean water. Blot with a clean, white cloth.

I've tried just about everything and what works best for me is to boil water on the stove and pour it on the stain, let it set for a few minutes then blot it up with a towel. Repeat as necessary. I did this to remove a blueberry smoothie stain and it is completely gone (from a white carpet.)

next time, use cold water and paper towels to soak up as much as you can prior to using steam. Heat sets the stain.
Now, use a wet paste of a laundry oxygen additive. Oxy Clean is one brand, but there are many. After it sits a few minutes, rinse and blot repeatedly with cool water. It helps speed things up if you use a scrub brush to work the paste down into the nap. You may need to do it a couple times, but it takes out difficult stains. It has taken out stains from Orange Crush, grape juice, pet urine, tomato sauce from my pale beige carpet.
good luck, L.

Try a carpet cleaner called Kids and Pets. It is great for getting stains out. Squirt some onto the stain then take a white towel or paper towel and dab the stain. Don't rub it since it only push the stain further down. Keep putting more of the cleaner on the carpet and dabbing until the stain appears to be gone. Last step - you need to further soak up the stain by putting on a clean white towel or plain paper towel and then put a heavy object on it. This will draw the stain out onto the towel and out of your carpet. I ususally leave the towel down over night.

Hi J.,

I use hydrogen perixide on my cream carpets. I just put it on a washcloth and dab the spot then rinse the spot with clean water. It is amazing how many stains it has taken out! Good luck.

About 4 years ago my son-in-law spilled a can of wood stain on off white carpeting. I took a steam cleaner with normal solution for that model and added oxy-clean in large doses to in. After going over the area for more times then I could count all of the stain was removed from the surface of the carpet. I hope it works for you. Good luck.

My new favorite spot remover is plain white vinegar and water. You mix 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water, saturate the spot and then mop up with a clean towel. A friend of mine cleans houses and this is all she uses to remove spots, it really works! Plus, it is so much better than those harsh chemicals that can be in some cleaners. It is also safe to use in carpet cleaners, haven't tried that yet, but will the next time I use one.

Good luck! ~ E.

Hi J.,
I am making no guarantees, but I would recommend trying Nature Bright Laundry Booster and Basic H from Shaklee. Just this Spring I saved Collingwood Apartments in Davison $1400, by getting a stain out with these products---very simple. A renter had moved out and left a small brown spot on the carpet- it turned out to be chewing tobacco. They tried all of their nasty chemicals in the steam cleaner and the spot just kept spreading and getting bigger, until they decided they would have to replace the carpet. I mixed up a solution of Nature Bright and we poured that on the spot and put Basic H in the steam cleaner- PRESTO- the spot came right out. The manager couldn't believe her eyes. She has now converted to using Shaklee's natural, green products for maintenance in the apartment complex. I use all of Shaklee's products and love them so much, that I have become a distributor. I live in Davison, you can call me ###-###-####, or go to my website www.shaklee.net/marilynmalvey or go to my Mamasource business, M. Goes Green! Also, please note that commercial carpet cleaning solutions contain chemicals that are very harmful, especially to small children. I personally know of 2 children that got Kawasaki syndrome from carpet cleaning chemicals, and John Travolta's baby had the same thing happen- he has been on TV talking about it. If you are interested in seeing an 18 minute CBC report about chemicals in household products, go to: www.theglobalsuccessteam.net, enter the site and then click on the upper right "Toxic Brew"--this will be very informative. I wish that I had known about Shaklee products when my children were younger- they are wonderful. Good Luck,
M.

Last year my brother spilled an entire red Crystal Light Slurpee on my white berber carpet. I poured a small bottle of club soda on the stain and then placed a white towel over the spot and ironed over top of the stain. I kept moving the towel to a clean part and continued to use club soda until the ironing pulled up all of the stain. The stain is completely gone!!!!! I had a harder time getting the stain out of the towel after everything was said and done, but that was a small price to pay as compared to replacing an entire room of carpeting!!!!!

I use a powder called "Capture". It used to be sold at Home Depot and it was excellent getting any stain up. Then over a year ago Home Depot stopped selling it and I found it at Meijers.
I used to buy it in a big gallon bucket. Meijer's has it in
smaller containers.
It has removed blue ink off our white carpets, also
red wine, red soda pop, etc. I think it is the best.
You springle the powder on the spot, scrub it in lightly with a brush, after a couple hours just vacumn it up. It is so darn easy. The best part is that if you forget about it or don't have time to vacumn it up it will not harm your cartpet. They also have Capture in a spray form but I think the powder works the best.

Give "Simple Solutions" a try. It is formulated for pet stains, but my husband and I have used it in our tile grout, tough stains on carpet, and of course, for the pet messes.

They sell it at most pet stores or if your in the Davison area I've picked it up a few times at 'Doogie's Dollar.'

Hope this helps; God's blessings to you and your family.
