Hi! I'm about to go the way of cloth diapers because they are so much cheaper and better for the environment. Can anyone give me some tips on what works best for them and which kind you like the best? Thanks! I'm so excited to be green!

What can I do next?

I would really recommend diaperswappers.com. You can get a wealth of information there and great places to buy from.

I'm about to have my first and will be going the cloth diaper or perhaps combo of cloth and disposable route. I found a lot of helpful info at the softclothbunz website about the types of cloth diapers out there. Hope that helps!

M. there is so much information out there. What worked best for us was covers/prefolds (for when I was out of my other stuff) and pocket diapers otherwise (fuzzi bunz and bumgenius).

The benefit of pockets is that they are quick changes when you are out and about and the laundry is just as easy.

As far as laundry goes when babys are solely breastfed you don't have to rinse the poop diapers (they are water soluble). So that is easy enough to throw in a diaper pail and wash (I found it easiest to wash at the end of every day).

Since, in my case, pockets had to dry seperate from prefolds or microfiber inserts I just kept them in two different piles. So there was no folding required after laundry and when it came time to diaper I could just grab and go.

As for when they are older and eating solids. A little sprayer at your toilet works wonders for poops.

If you need anymore information let me know. You can get a lot of help through message boards at diaperpin.com and babycenter.com

I have been doing it for 4 1/2 yrs now and love it :)

I may be in the minority here, but I use prefolds with a snappi around the house or a 100% cotton fitted diaper for going out and at night. I use Thirsties covers for going out, a homemade fleece cover for around the house, and a wool cover for night.

I have heard negative things about all in ones regarding detergent build up, drying time, stink, and cost. Although many people like these because of ease of use. Just personal preference, I guess.

greenmountaindiapers.com has been a great resource for me.

hi M.!
we used a combination of cloth & disposables for our kids. i tried using cloth 100% but if we happened to be out somewhere & there was poopy mess, i didnt like having to tote around a poopy cloth diaper until we got home. we started using disposables for when we were away from the house and that worked well.
we tried several brands of cloth all-in-ones but liked bumkins the best. they rarely leaked, fit my kids well, and washed up beautifully.
i would suggest that you get online & order one of several different brands--there are so many out there!--and decide which you like the most.
good luck & enjoy!

I make my own cloth diapers, and have done a huge amount of research. This is what i've learned:
Pocket diapers and All in one's have worked the best for me.You can stuff pockets more at night.
Don't use regular laundry detergent. It builds up on the diapers and prevents them from working right. Use Allen's or Charlie's natural soap.
Do buy a diaper sprayer. It attaches to your toilet and you won't have to touch any poop.
If you have any questions, or perhaps want some custom diapers made, please feel free to contact me. you'll love cloth diapers.

Hello!
These I was using since birth for my daughter. They need insertion, but are the best so far:
http://www.softclothbunz.com/Bummis-Super-Whisper-Wrap_p_...
Also here they have lots of good cloth diapers. If you order from them, they will reach you in 3-4 days.

these are insertions, which I was using.
I have 9 months daughter, and she was confortable with them.
Also they are easy to wash, and lasts long.
Hope it helped.
I was doing lots of research on this before I had my baby. It is very confusable.

I have used both regular diapers and the all-in-one's. I used diaper service for the first 6-9 mos for all of my kids because someone else was doing the washing!! The all-in-ones cost more and depending on how often you go thru diapers may not be an option for you. I was able to purchase online and thru the diaper service larger size covers for the regular diapers so unless the covers got really messy, I only had to do laundry ever other day. Best wishes to you! D.
