Cloth Diapering Dilemma

Help needed from cloth diapering mamas! My daughter is 16 months old and has been in a size small fuzzi bunz diaper for her whole life :-) Now, she is a skinny toddler, and the smalls are getting too small and the mediums are too big, she leaks right out of them. I thought that fuzzi bunz made a slim size, but not according to their website, and I didn't find any on eBay. Any suggestions?? I am tired of buying disposables. Especially when I have size mediums purchased and ready to go!

Thanks!

S.

So What Happened?

Thanks for your replies everyone. I am going to Peapods tomorrow to buy a few different brands/styles, and see what works best, but I am sad. I have really liked the fuzzi bunz. Someone commented on using petites, but I don't see them on the fuzzi bunz website anymore. I just looked the other night. Well, here goes!

Thanks Again!

I also highly endorse Bum Genius diapers. They're one size, from newborn to 35 pounds, so they should work for you too. My kiddos have the opposite problem, in that they outgrow the diapers too early. I use Chinease prefolds on my toddler because they're able to form to any size. Good luck!

I highly recommend the cloth diapers from a local mom, Amy. Her web address is TwigandVine.com. She hand makes all of her diapers and you get to pick the patterns/colors of the fabric and the snaps! They are about $9 less per diaper than other commerical diapers. If you live near the Minneapolis area you can pick the diapers up from her home and avoid shipping costs!

She makes All in Ones (AIO) that are adjustable. If you have an in-between size, maybe she can help you choose the best diaper for your little one. I can't get over her quick replies over email and her excellent customer service!

We switched to cloth diapering about 3 weeks ago and it is SUPER easy and I calculated that we'll save at least $700.

Good luck!

I also found that there was that transition from one size to another. One was getting small but the other was a little too big at first. As they grow it will fit. I get my cloth diapers from barefoot baby.com and I use the bumkin covers which made it so they didn't leak at all.
Good luck,

I don't know what fuzzi buns are-but I was a cloth diapering mom in the days when you could still find them on the shelf. You can make your own diapers from flannel. You can even contour them as you like and put velcro tabs on them for closing. They were great when I was diapering, and they fit any size.

I, too, have a petite baby. I was never able to get the FuzziBunz to fit just right, so I gave up. My mainstay diaper is the BumGenius One-size. I love it. I use the microfleece inserts, but also use Chinese prefolds. I also keep a few Pro-Wraps and Thirsties wraps on hand to use with the Chinese prefolds. They are an economical way to go. I think the Thirsties are a little bit more than the Pro-Wraps, but have a few more bells and whistles that make it worth it. BumGenius is an investment, but a great diaper. Since it's velcro instead of snaps, you can really customize the fit.

I would suggest trying several brands to see what fits. Get a few used pairs on diaperswappers.com or diapertraders.com and then you'll know what fits. You can then trade or sell your Fuzzi Bunz for the ones that work. Or save them for the next baby and just buy a few of what works. At 16 months you can probably get away with 8-10 diapers if you wash every other day.

BumGenius one size really are genius! I suggest giving them a try.

Petites are what you are looking for. However if you are having issues with fit, you may need to switch brands. My boys were out of smalls at 2 months old! But wore mediums until potty training (at 20months and 15 months). Fuzzi Bunz makes the size 'petite' and that should fit her better. However maybe trying another brand, or going with chinese prefolds and a bummis cover might be whaty ou have to do for now until she grows a bit. Or something that has velcro so you can make it smaller that way. Also, with the fuzzi bunz, you can over snap, I did that when our boys first moved to the Mediums... snap one side across to the other side (the top row) and then snap the other side across. It'll make a little 'x' but it works.

I didn't even know there is different sizes in cloth diapers. We use to fold them and pin them on with the big diaper pins. I use to be so good at that that I could do it in the dark in the middle of the night.

Rubber pants are what I used during the potty training stage (before pullups came out). I bet they would work for those leaks until she has grown into the medium.

Back in the diapering days, I bought several different brands of cloth diapers and the best fit for my baby was the Bum Genius diapers. They actually grow with the baby so you don't have to buy a million different sizes. It sounds like you already have diapers but if you want to change brands, you can sell your current ones on a cloth diapering site like www.jilliansdrawers.com
Good luck!

I love my bum genius, but I know you may not want to purchase another set of diapers. Maybe you could sell your others on craigs list or one of the other many sites.
A.- also a cloth diapering mama!

Wow 16 months and was still wearing smalls! My son started wearing the mediums at 6 months of age.. they were a little big on him so I doubled up on the inserts. That seemed to help him.. I have also heard that if you are a little handy with a sewing machine you could take a few stiches out of the seam by the elastic leg and pull the elastic tighter. Then sew it back up. Sorry to say I have not tried this but depending on where she is leaking it might be worth trying.. If you don't sew you could take it to a seamstress, she would be able to adjust them for you.
Good luck
