Cloth Diaper , Blow Outs - Yuck!

I have a 3 week old, breastfed baby & using cloth diapers. She's constantly pooping out the sides of the diaper. Anyone have any tips, to keep this from happening? I use prefolds with the bummi covers & they have the double leg barrier (sorry, can't think of proper term).

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Should've been more clear. The mess is contained to the inside of the cover. It's just soiling the cover every time.

Rather than fold, roll the diaper toward the center on both sides and pin it tightly before putting on the cover. This will help create a channel for the soft newborn poo. It actually isn't unusual for newborns to soil the cover. You may just have to have a few more on hand. I would hand was them in the sink and let them dry so you can reuse them more quickly. Don't worry it gets better when "things" get more solid.

That is what I used and never had a problem - are you sure the cloth is completely inside of the cover and there are no gaps around the leg? I used earths best disposables the first several weeks because the cloth diapers were too big for my son as a newborn. By about one month we were cloth users full time. Are they still a little too big for her by chance?

We could not use cloth the first 6 weeks, or so. The fit was never correct on him. Also, prefolds NEVER worked for us. Some baby' poops are just too much for prefolds. You could try to pin or nap the diapers around your baby, instead of fold them.

Prefolds worked great for us. Maybe you're folding too much so there's not good coverage around her bottom? I wouldn't worry too much about it. As she gets bigger, she'll fit in the diapers better and you'll also get the hang of it. It took us a few tries!

Wish I could help. I used Kissaluvs with my newborns. I'm fact, I'm still using them on my 4 month old. I'm not ready to move over to my all-in-ones. I love the kissaluvs. They contain everything!

Google the "jelly roll" fold. Rolling the sides in instead of folding them over really creates a good barrier to keep the poop contained.
