I have been trying to get pregnant for almost a year now and I have not had any success! It took about 4 months with my son so I figured it would happen but it hasn't yet! I've had all my hormones tested and all are normal and DR said I am ovulating! I used ovulations tests a while back but got sick of it and figured it would be less stress for me and maybe just have a little more sex day 10-17. My DR told me my next step is to get a semen analysis for husband to rule out problems with him! I have had a couple of friends that have taken Clomid and got pregnant within a month or two! I'm hoping he will prescribe it to me if my husbands test comes out normal but will Clomid help me if I am ovulating already!! From my understanding Clomid makes you release more eggs so if I am ovulating already I will just release an extra egg or two... does anyone know about Clomid or had experience with it!!

Be patient! Some people try for years. It will happen at just the right time. Don't give up on spontanaity just yet! With my first daughter i got pregnant the first time i lost my viginity....needless to say it was QUICK. Years later when it was time for #2 it was about a year and a half before we had baby number two. We were giving up, ready to have a puppy! Hahahaha. We went away for a weekend, had a great time. I never knew i was bringing home a souvenir! heehee..........

Clomid can increase your chances of ovulating, but it has the nasty side effect of creating a "hostile" environment for those eggs, which can hinder a successful pregnancy. So if you are already ovulating, I'd avoid the Clomid and just start charting your cycles. And I've found that a few Mai Tai drinks help as well! ;-)

I have never taken clomid myself because I've know to many people who have ended up with multiples and that was not for me. I used the clear blue easy fertility monitor and got pregnant right away I highly recommend it. You might ovulate at a unique time and it will tell you exactly when. Good luck.

Hi, first thing to consider is how old you are. I'd say if you're under 35, then keep trying for a while more and using an ovulation kit can really help. it doesn't matter how much sex you're having for that "ovulation" week. what matters is having sex right before/after you ovulate. its really about a 24 hour window. clomid can help in that it can make you release more follicles (follicles have eggs in them usually but not always). If your over 35, you might be releasing follicles (ovulating), but they might not always have eggs in them. the "danger" with clomid is that you could have twins/multiple births. so be careful and talk to a doctor for sure.

Hello R.

I had to take Clomid to get pregnant but used it in conjunction with the ovulation kit. The first time, I got pregnant the first time I took it. The second time it took a little longer. My husband was tested so we knew it wasn't him. And I had always been "irregular" so the clomid ensured I would ovulate every month. I am now blessed with two beautiful children. Good luck to you.

I've never tried Colmid, but I know that my Dr. had me take a baby asprin every day to keep the blood flowing to the uturis...I had something called Anti Cardio Lipin which is a clotting disorder (we miscarried SEVERAL times). We now have 2 wonderful children :) I also took something called Lovenox. The asprin keeps the blood thin. I've read that some Dr.'s have patients take it that have a hard time conceiving as well. I know you may hear this A LOT, but it's true, throw out all the ovulation kits and just have lots of good sex and focus else where...I work from home and that keeps me distracted!

Be careful with Clomid as your chances of having multiples is greater... if that's what you want, then great! My (old) OB tried to prescribe this after we went a year without conceiving, but she didn't tell me I might have twins! We decided to use the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" instead of Clomid and we conceived within two months. Good luck!

I also used the Clearblue Easy Fertility monitor after trying for a year and a half. Got pregnant within 3 months of using it. It's pricey, but totally worth it. You can usually purchase it cheaper online than in a drugstore. Best of luck to you!!

I had problems getting pregnant with my second child. My doctor put me on Clomid because I wasn't ovulating. Because it can increase the risk of ovarian cysts I had to come in every month for a pelvic exam. My doctor would only do three months on Clomid before referring the patient to a fertility specialist. Luckily, I got pregnant by the third month. On Clomid you do still have to count days and do ovulation tests.
If you're already ovulating then I'm sure any doctor would suggest your husband getting checked. Otherwise, try something alternative like acupressure or acupuncture. I know people who have had great results with that.

I would skip the clomid if you know that you are ovulating for sure! I hated it and didnt have any success with it. Have you had an HSG to see if your tubes are open and Uterus is normal? Its a basic test where they put some fluid in your uterus and then take an xray to see where it goes. They also say that it can clear out the small debris in your tubes and make it easier for you to get pregnant. If you havent had that test yet I would tell your doctor to write it up for you. Also yes have your husband go to his doctor and have his men checked.

I tried acupuncture before resorting to Clomid and I was pregnant within three months. I really suggest trying other alternatives before Clomid. I hear it makes you pretty crazy while you're on it.

Hey R.!
I took Clomid for 6 months before getting pregnant with my daughter. I was not ovulating and that's why it was prescribed. Ironically, it made me ovulate but had other side effects from it that kept me from getting pregnant (ie. no fertile fluids). So take those side effects into consideration before committing to a drug like that. We didn't actually conceive until 3 months OFF the clomid :)

I don't know what Colmid is but....if everything is okay with your husband, have you considered a more natural approach? A few of my friends having a hard time getting pregnant went to an acupunturist and it worked well. Good luck!

Just a suggestion but it sounds like you are eager and stressing out pretty hard. Why dont you just pray and let go of your worry.. I am a mother of nearly 5 and I can tell you that babies happen in god's timing for reasons unknown to us. All of my children have been concieved at times in my life due to unusual circumstances like taking 2 birth control pills instead of 1 a day. Do you realize the odds of that? 99.95 effective birth control pills. It just goes to show you how much control we really have in the grand scheme of things. Medication works sometimes and sometimes not. I pray when it comes to things that I want badly. I pray that if it is in the better interest to myself and the family that it will be able to happen. good luck to you. I do not want to push my views on you but I am simply giving you my opinion the way I see it..Best regards.

I have been taking clomid for 5 months now and still not preggo so it doesn't always work for everyone.

My cousin had great success just by having sex every other day or at least three times a week. Do this starting the day after your cycle and continue for 3 weeks. It's worked for her she got preggo the first time they did it!

Also be sure to track your cycles, use ovulation kits and tune into your body. Ovulation usually gives you a egg white type discharge and cramping pain on either your left or right side. By tuning into my own body I discovered that I have a natural cycle of 50+ days! I ovulate around day 37 or so. You didn't mention if your cycles were irregular but that could be it.

I think you should see a fertility specialist before you go on the clomid just to be sure. I know it's hard waiting to conceive... been there. I will be going on Clomid myself starting my next cycle

Hi, R.,

You don't say how old you are. Age might or might not explain why it's taking longer this time. I would recommend that after a year of trying and receiving the hormone level tests you received that you and your husband get a consultation with a reproductive endocrinologist (RE). (I recommend Reproductive Partners and Pacific Fertility Center (Dr. Sahakian)). I recommend seeing a RE because some (but not all) gynecologists/obstetricians will automatically throw Clomid at you if you want to become pregnant but are not and some are not familiar with rarer conditions like mine, antiphospholipid antibodies, that might affect the viability of a pregnancy. I miscarried a couple of times and went through many rounds of high- and low-tech fertility treatment to conceive my first live child. I was 40 1/2 when my first was born, and just six weeks short of my 42nd birthday when my second live child, who was conceived naturally, was born.

Sincerely,
Lynne E
