Hey Ladies. So my husband and I are trying for # 3 :). Our first was an oops so I'm have no idea how long it took us to get pregnant. When we started trying for our second I found out I was pregnant 3 weeks later. So we were very lucky with our first two. A few months ago when we decided to start trying for our third my periods started going crazy! But we kept trying with no luck yet. I went to my gyno today after having three weeks of spotting. She told me I am probley not ovulating regularly. I had some blood drawn to check my hormones, thyroid, and such. The doctor said if everything comes back normal with the blood test she wants me to try Clomid. I never thought I would be in this situation and I'm not sure what to do. So my question is have any of you taken Clomid? What were you're side affects and were you able to get pregnant? If so how long did it take? Is there any risk to the pregnancy? I don't know anything about this so as much information you can give about the drug would be much appreciated. Thanks. :)
I took clomid before both my first and second pregnancies, but had gone off it both times before I actually got pregnant. Go figure. Anyway, I was an emotional basket case and had the side effect of hot flashes. In my mind, worth it to get pregnant, but if you can do things a little more naturally my inclination would be to do that first, just because I found the side effects so unpleasant. Good luck!
I took clomid but it didn't work for me, it is one of the lowest dose fertility drugs so it does increase your chance of multiples but only by about 5%, I didn't experience any side effects from it either
My girlfriend was on clomid for her 1st child and was pregnant in 3 months. She had her second without clomid. No issues of side effects and no multiples. If everything comes back normal on your blood tests ask your dr why you would have to take clomid. "probably" not ovulating regularly isn't enough for me to try clomid or anything else. There are many books on FAM that tell you had to read your cycle with the use of a basil themometer that will tell you when you are ovulating and peak time to have sex. I'd go that route first. You've been successful the first two times, so why not try a little longer and then make the decision to try clomid since you feel so apprehensive.
I took Clomid back in the 90's for the purpose of...well I'd had 3 boys and I wanted to improve the chances of at least one girl through sex selection. Clomid is supposed to 'enhance' the 'environment'. Make you basically more apt to conceive. Either with a more acidic or alkaline environment.
The only side effect I think I could claim, without doubt, is a roller coaster emotionally. Because when I thought I was conceiving, I ended up getting my period. Maybe I staked too much hope on the success. But I ended up crying after getting the period. So I simply decided to be content with what I already had, which is more than some wish for. But I didn't appreciate the emotional roller coaster.
I took Clomid for both my boys. My first pregnancy took almost a year after I started taking the drug, but my second only took one cycle of the drugs. I experienced no side effects, however my insurance didn't cover the fertility appointments. Totally worth it to get my two angels though! :)

I did SO much research on Clomid when my hubby and I were trying to get pregnant. We had been trying for a while but nothing was happening. After a round of tests for the both of us my Dr prescribed Clomid. There is a lot of debate as to what cycle days are the best to take it, etc. I thankfully only took 1 round of it and combined with an HCG shot I got pregnant with twins. There is only like a 7% increase for a chance of multiples. I was involved a lot with forums while I was trying to get pregnant and some other women who were taking Clomid had some side affects. The only one I had was that I was dizzy at times. But I remember a lot of woman saying they were crazy emtional and had hot flashes and were sick. But like any drug the side affects are different for everyone.
I am kind of suprised your Dr is only having you do bloodwork before suggesting Clomid. But every Dr is different.

I took Clomid for one round and had twins almost 4 years ago. The drug made me feel fat and foggy but it wasn't too terrible. I do think it is important to be monitored while you are taking it to see how your eggs are growing. My doctor gave me a HCG shot to start my ovulation.
There is an increased risk of twins with Clomid but it is only about 5 percent. If you are being monitored via sonogram and see that you have multiple eggs you could decide to wait for another cycle if you don't want to risk twins.
I have PCOS and one of the symptoms is hormone imbalance. So, my dr put me on Clomid. I was pregnant the first month of taking it. Unfortunately, that pregnancy ended in miscariage - nothing to do with the drug. I tried again and was pregnant after second cycle on Clomid. I did not experience any side effects. There is a slight chance of multiples.
