Classes for Toddlers

I am from Smithfield, RI and I would like to get my 17 month old daughter involved in some type of class. I was thinking an art or music class or maybe there is something else that would be fun for her that I haven't even thought of. I tried to search online, but couldn't really find anything that was toddler based. If you could provide me with any recommendations it would be a huge help. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Music Together offers great music classes. The winter session just began last week; it probably isn't too late to join if you can find a nearby class. My son is 20 months old and we've just begun our 2nd 10-week session. He loves it.

My twins started a baby dance class when they were about that age. It's definitely more about movement, & following directions, at that age than it is about dancing! It was one of the few classes that worked for twins, because I needed to find something where I wasn't one-on-one with them. (Otherwise I would've done swimming at the Y again, like I did with my older daughter.) Something like that might be good for you & your daughter, when you have the new baby to take care of.

You should look for Music Together classes in your area. Music Together is a national program with classes offered virtually everywhere. You can search for them online by the name and then type in your town or zipcode and it will come up with classes in your area.

Also my toddler has really loved toddler gymnastics which is mostly just tumbling and balancing. Some gymnastics or dance studios offer gymnastics or movement classes for toddlers.

I hope that helps! Good luck! :)

Hi J.,
Check out www.musictogether.com. My son really enjoys this music class, it is once a week for 45min. I believe it costs $150 per semester.

You may want to see if your town offers something. I am in CT and my town has a 'toddler time' for 12mos-4yrs old. Its' a mix of music, singing, story time, crafts etc. The best part for us is that it's free.

Hi J.,

Have you tried your local Parks & Rec. Dept? I've always found great programs for my kids through ours and they're usually pretty affordable.

I don't live near you (I live in "the boonies" of MA)...but I know that a YMCA in the next town over offers several toddler classes. My son went to a toddler gym class that he really loved when he was 17 months, and they also offered swimming and music classes there for the little ones. Check your local YMCA, gymnastics center, or indoor swimming pool.

I've heard the Music Together is good. I was thinking of checking it out myself. You could probably search online for a class local to where you are.

I recommend Music Together as well.. our instuctor gives us a copy of the ongs that they sing to use in th e car or at home which is really fun becuase then the children learn the words to sing along for the upcoming classes. I think it worked wonders for my daughters speaking and language skills just learning the songs.
