Chronic Yeast Infections

Hello Ladies,

I need some good advice. I've been dealing with chronic yeast infections since I was 20 years old. I am now 32 and I still get them. The only time that I didn't get them was when I was pregnant. I typically get them every month about a week before I start my period. My OB has said that my PH may be off. He's given me diflucan and other perscriptions, but month after month the infection comes back. I am very tired of having to deal with this and need some good solid advice on what to do and what I should be taking. Thanks Ladies - I really appreciate it.

I know how you feel. It's a horrible thing to deal with. I have found some things online and at the health food store that do help. P73 Oregano oil taken internally is good. You have to take an excellent probiotic to replace the good bacteria. Also Brewer's Yeast is quite helpful - however it tastes terrible. You'd have to get it in something you could just swallow.
I've found a few others as well. You can contact me if you'd like more ideas.
Good luck!

Sounds like a chronic candida issue. I would look up Candida diets and really commit to it for a few months.

OMG! I read all the responses. You do not need a colon cleanse. I have had the same problem for years and finally found a doctor who helped me. The only thing that truly works is diet (limit white-flour foods and sugars) and using probiotics. Trust me, it REALLY works. I personally use Culturelle (but I assume any good probiotic would work). It is available at most grocery stores and drug stores. WalMart is the cheapest I found. I take two every day just as a precaution and even more if I go off my diet and eat breads or sweets. If I feel an infection coming on, I will take two with each meal until it's gone. It's that simple, and IT WORKS!! Good luck!

Hi A., I can relate to your situation since my body was very similar. After the birth of my second daughter I couldn't get rid of the infection for months. Finally my friend who owns a vitamin company taught me about the connection between sugar and yeast in our bodies. Once I stopped eating sugar (desserts, cereal, cocktails, etc), my infection went away. The sugar feeds the yeast in your gut and affects other parts of your body. I also started taking a great "pro-biotic" called "JARRO-DOPHILUS" found in the refrigerated vitamin section of your local health food store or at any Whole Foods. This also changed my body chemistry and I've stuck with it for 10 years. Finally, but of equal importance, you can make a solution of warm water and a few drops of Tea Tree oil (again, health food store or Whole Foods) and use it in a douche. You can also use a bottle with a top which you can get a good stream from when squeezing the plastic bottle. Without being aware, you may be overloading your system with sugar before each period. For people who are prone to yeast infections, even a little sugar is enough for the infection to get going. Also, try blow drying yourself after your shower on low. All these things will help battle your situation.

Hello A.,
Sorry to hear about your ongoing problem. Many times our illnesses are to diet, especially with body chemistry. I would recommend eliminating sugar from your diet and introduce Kyodophilus supplements twice per day. I used to get yeast infection whenever I was on any type of antibiotics but when I cut out sugar and added Kyodophilus, I never got them again. Good luck!

I had this same problem from the time I was 16 until my mid 20's. I finally found the source of my problem. I have an intolerance to wheat and gluten products. When I eat too much wheat the infections come back, but as long as I keep it out of my system I am fine. This is not something a Dr. told me (as they couldn't come up with anything to answer why I was getting them every month), it was something I figured out through trial and error. I would try doing a food allergy elimination test to see if it's a certain type of food that is causing you problems. My sister started getting them after she developed an intolerance to Peanut Butter, so it could be any food that could be causing it. Here is a link that might help you with the elimination diet http://www.webmd.com/allergies/allergies-elimination-diet. Good luck!! Oh, and you should also make sure that all your undergarments are 100% cotten and you don't wear clothing that restricts air flow in that area (like nylons, tight pants, tights, etc.). And the yogurt and other ideas are also great.

Hi there, there is one thing/approach that I can assure you works and works fast. I also was/am plagued by yeast infections, usually appearing right after ovulating and clearing with my period..when the yeast infection is really bad, I have learned (through many years of experience--my children are in their 20's!) that the only thing that stops it is taking a nutritional supplement called Capricin, which I think is mostly magnesium. Take 3 pills 3 times a day, and while i think it is recommeded to do it for 10-12 days, it is not necessary to keep taking it after you think the infection is good and gone! I learned this after an excruciatingly long bout with yeast after the birth of my second baby, and trying all the other remedies listed above. By the way, I have never liked or eaten much sugar, don't eat processed foods and eat tons of plain yogurt and a probiotic supplement daily anyway, and always have, but these alone will not get rid of a stubborn yeast infection...I have recommended this to many friends who all report relief! CAPRICIN=yay! the regular doctors don't have anything...good luck, it's such a drag I know...(ps, the suppositories available in heath food stores such as Yeast Gard, are very soothing and get rid of the itch, but don't clear up the infection in my experience. the temporary symptom relief is great though.)

Two things. Eat yogurt every day. The cultures will keep the yeast from forming. The other is get some Refresh. It is a cream that keeps your ph at the correct levels.

This too happened to me while I too was in my 20's. Try talking with your Dr. to see if he could possibly put you and your husband on some type of treatment (possibly antibiotics) to see if this helps. You may want to watch the foods you eat with yeast, i.e. bread etc.

Sounds like a Candida Overgrowth. You might want to look at this website to confirm your symptoms: http://www.candidasupport.org/ . I took this product to amazing results. Craving free, dropped @ 40 pounds, no more joint pain hives or yeast infections. I recently 'fell off the wagon' , stopped taking it and eating wheat and my problems all came roaring back. Now I'm back on it and have also added Candex, a supplement that supposedly dissolves Candida's cell walls. (The Threelac above is a pro-biotic that feeds on it). Between the two I feel immediately better. Might do a colon cleanse too as it can't hurt. I don't make money selling either of those products, they've just been life changing so I recommend them.

One other question: were you around 20 when you went on the pill? That was what triggered the unbalance for me. If you don't want to try the above products but want to balance your system you might use condoms instead of the pill and try cheaper pro-biotics first. Nothing but the Threelac or Fivelac has worked for me... Good luck!

You need to do a colon cleanse immediately to remove the parasites from your intestines and colon. Yeast is a sign of a weakened immune system, and your doctor is correct about the pH. Upon awakening, drink a 8 ounce glass of water with lemon juice. It will help re-alkaline your blood. Of course you need to check your diet - eliminate yeast - bread, mushrooms, excess sugar, dairy, alcohol. It may sound like a lot but once you get this under control you will have much more energy and you will feel better. Also, try to not use antibiotics unless an absolute last resort. Good luck and if you want recommendations on a good colon cleanse, email me back.

I would take acidoulophis (sp?) daily, a great one that does not have to be refridgerated is called PB8, I have not had an yeast infection since I have been taking this daily for years. I have not been sick either! I have been giving my son baby acidoulphis and he has never been sick, no ear infections or trips to the doctor since he was born (except for baby wells)and now he is turning 3!
Good stuff for the body, and keeps your body in check.

What worked for me was decreasing wheat and sugar in my diet, increasing protein, taking a probiotic/eating food with probiotics (yogurt with active cultures is a good example) and seeing an acupuncturist. I haven't had any yeast related event in over 2 years. If you are in San Francisco I went to Christine Friel at Double Happiness Health for my acupuncture. Good luck!

Hi A.,

I would try to eat more yogurt. It has acidophiles (sp?) (the good bacteria that you may be lacking). I used to get a yeast infection whenever I took antibiotics but I've found that if I eat one yogurt a day while I'm on my antibiotic then I don't get the yeast infection. It's worth a try, plus it's good for you and tastes great too. ;) I would eat yogurt daily the week before your period (and maybe during your period) and see if there is any change. Good Luck!

Boy, I certainly know this well, and it is NOT fun! It's uncomfortable and a drag to deal with on a daily basis! Diflucan never cured my chronic yeast infections either! Wouldn't it be nice if that pill would make it go away! I agree with some of the other responses: up the probiotics and decrease-eliminate white flours, starch & refined sugar in the diet. I was diagnosed with systematic candida, which can be controlled by the probiotics and diet/lifestyle change. Perhaps a quick google search (of systematic candida) will provide you with more helpful tips! Good luck!

Hello A.,
I can sympathize with you and these chronic yeast infections! I too suffer from these. It was recommended that I add the dietary supplement acidophilus to my diet. You can find them in the vitamin section, I get mine at Walmart and they are pretty reasonably priced. I take one a day and I haven't had one in two months!! Good luck to you.

From what I know it depends on the material you wear. Some clothing material can make you itch and irrated. If you noticed the difference from the clothing, that might eliminate your problem. There is gynolotermin that works better. Each of bodies have a reaction to different creams. I don't have alot of info, but google yeasts and how they come about. That has info on most things. Good luck with those. You could be allergic to the soap your using too. Its a possibility. G.
