Christmas Practical Jokes--outdoor Home Decorations

I am trying to develop some fun, inexpensive, and safe practical jokes to play on two friends who have new homes this year. What do you think would be the best idea? I've heard about decorating the other people's homes with an overabundance of lights and decorations. It sounds tempting.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I'm still brainstorming, but thanks for the help! They will think it is a hoot!

My mom is more Martha Stewart than Martha herself. When she was out of town near Christmas one year she made the mistake of asking my sister & I to look after her house for her.

We went to the Dollar Store and stocked up on the WORST stuff we could find... cheap garland, blinking lights, window clings, plastic candy canes, the whole nine yards. We also got lucky and found a yard sale and got some really old plastic light up Santa and Snowman stuff (like from the 70s).

We went to town -- it was BAD. Got it finished just in time for mom to pull in for the big reveal.

Lets just say it was a few years before we were asked to housesit for her again. It took a few weeks until we were forgiven. However, she does laugh about it now.

One hundred plastic flamingos with Christmas hats on? Oh, I just noticed that somebody already thought of that. The up side to that is that you might be able to rent them.

I think the lights one is hard to pull off (& h*** o* their electric bill ha ha).
How about?:
Candy Canes (the tall ones for the yard) all over their yard?
Wreaths tied to their car front grills?
Wrapped Candy Canes (the edible candy) hung from all of their tree
branches?
Quietly hang a strip of bells to their front door so when they open it: surprise
If they have garden gnomes, put santa hats on them
Spray paint flat circular river/garden rocks red & green then place all over
their yard
Buy cheap little xmas statues at the Dollar Store & place all over their
yard
Leave chocolate covered raisins or whoppers on their walkway as reindeer
droppings (just make sure to place them where they won't step on them)
wrap something easy as a present (chimneys & garage doors are too
hard but you get my drift)
find cheap little green elves somewhere & place all over their yard
hang cheap huge plastic ornaments on all of their bushes
make a small sleigh & park on their lawn
make your own signs w/funny Christmas sayings (like Santa snores here
or Santa's bed & breakfast, Santa's workshop
red & green streamers strung from their trees/bushes etc

12 days of xmas!!!

On each day/night sneak over and do one of the themes! 5 golden rings can be 5 wreaths (you can get cheap ones and spray paint gold, or use gold party decorating schtuff) you hang from a tree... or 5 yellow ring toss rings you string across the windshield of their car... or paint on snow... or toilet seats and a scrubber, or, or, or.

All 12 are like that. You can come up with really goofy stuff (or sweet, or whatever) to prank your friends with. But remember... HALF THE FUN is them having NO IDEA who's getting them!

Okay... but will 'they' think its funny?
Its a new home... some people are real particular, about their new homes.

But if they have a funny bone like you, then no problem!
Maybe put out corny lawn decorations... ya know, a garden Gnome, a pink Flamingo, etc.
Snowmen lighted up etc.
