Hi Moms, I need some help. I have a 4-yo girl that I need to finish Christmas shopping for. She's not really into the whole princess thing and doesn't like dolls. She loves Elmo though. Any ideas?

So What Happened?

Wow! You ladies have some awesome ideas. I knew I could trust the experts. ;) Nancy - thanks for the K'NEX toy recommendation, I had not seen those before. I bought one of the Elmo sets for Xmas b/c they were super affordable and look like fun. I think my little girl is a bit young still for an Easy Bake Oven, but maybe next Christmas. All the other ideas were great too. Thanks Moms!!

What about an easy bake oven? That may be something you two could do together. If you don't want the mess, etc, you could get her a fake kitchen with the toy accessories like the pots and pans and little fake fruit...

J.,
Good gifts for kids that age are creative tools, ie. WASHABLE crayons, paints, colored pencils, etc., coloring books that appeal to her interests (Elmo, etc).

Also, if she doesn't already have a Leapster 2, that is one of my 4yo daughters favorite toys. See the link for information.

Many retailers have it on sale right now and there are so many games for many different interests and age ranges. It is also an educational toy, so she'll be learning as she plays. It is awesome for road trips, you can get child earphones that plug into it so you don't have to listen to it, and every year you can get her a new game, as can family and friends looking for gift suggestions.
If you do decide to get one, make sure you buy the case as well. And teach her to keep it & games in the case when she's done playing!

Good luck and have a wonderful Christmas!

Hi J.!

Have you seen the Sesame Street building sets from K'NEX? They have a bunch of Elmo ones. I know right now K'NEX is also running a giveaway for tickets to Sesame Place if you're interested. Here's a link: http://snurl.com/knex-sesame-place

Hope this helps! :)

How about dress-up stuff - avoid the proincesses and get occupation stuff - chef, firefighter, doctor, etc. My kids love their medical kit and vet kit too. And pretend kitchen stuff is always good.

A dollhouse? Not so much baby doll stuff as playing house stuff.

And CDs - there is some great kids music out there, even Seseme Street - I always have a CD or 2 under the tree.

And pajamas and robe. I personally avoid "character stuff" but I am sure there are Elmo PJs out there.

ALso, look at HABA toys and blocks on a site like Oompa. They are very special gifts.

i've got 2 girls like that :) you lucked out skipping the pink and sparkly princess stuff! i got the girls the discovery kids, kid proof digital camera. $30 sold everywhere, i think i got this one at CVS but its EVERYWHERE. it made the top toys of the season list. its a little more on the mature side, will teach them responsibility with nicer things (i dont let them touch my camera, lol)... plus, its something that we can do together. my father in law is a world famous photographer... so that might have been a bit of the motivation behind it too. POINT IS its not all that expensive and will last for quite some time, while teaching them how to do something other than stare at a tv.

Beading kits or any type of arts and crafts kit. Also, check out the Sesame Street website, they have toys sorted by character.

Hi J.,

How about a couple of outfits with Elmo on them, and/or some books with Elmo and other Sesame Street characters. You can also never go wrong with educational toys, aides, etc.

If she likes to read, or likes books, look into the Tag or Tag Junior by LeapFrog. They are really great systems for learning to read...both of my kids enjoy theirs.
