My daughter is 14 years old and she has just about everything. She does not want a gift card or money for Christmas. She wants to open up a gift. She has an i-pod touch, lap top, wi-fit, cell phone, plenty of clothes/shoes/purses. Need help on what to get her.

What can I do next?

My 13 y/o daughter asked for an iHome docking station for Christmas. I haven't researched it yet but I know it's for the iPod.

Other than that she wants books, a Snuggie and a Rock Tumbler
(Edu Science) =-)

how about an ipod accessory, like a set of speakers for her room? Or a wireless mouse for her laptop?

Has she shared some wishes? She may have some good ideas, and they may not necessarily be items that can be bought in a store...

How about some TIME with you/family?
An excursion to a park, going for a hike, something to do together. Maybe a day of competition of uno or scrabble or monopoly (or another board or card game) - among family members, or with family and friends.
Maybe cooking or baking together, or teaching her some other skills you may have, like sewing or knitting or scrap booking - do things together.

Or attend a class together, where you can learn something new together, be that a language or a skill, be that cake decorating, photography, or rock climbing.

How about a membership in a health club? That may also be something you can do together.

How about something nice to pamper her: a facial, a massage?

And how about volunteering with her at a local food bank or at a family shelter?

I would make her write me a list! Then, you could take a very large box, wrap all of the things separately, and put them it, and wrap the big box. It is a fantasy for women, to open a box and get a marvelous gift, the truth is that if it is not one of our choice. we are disappointed. I have lots of ideas, but for a teen, that's a hard call. A beautiful necklace or bracelet would be wonderful. You could start a Pandora type thing. You could also wrap and hide what you get her, and send her on an amazing race, or a hunt with clues. That is what I am doing for my grkids. I am going to do an amazing race this year. It makes it so much fun, and besides extra memories, makes opening the gift take longer.

A diary or journal, programs for her laptop, some type of craft kit, puzzles, books, bed and bath products, wash out hair dye in her favorite color, a subscription to her favorite teen magazine, or write down some recipes and put in a cookbook for her.

Well does she have ideas on what she wants?
Teens are hard to shop for... they are either fickle or picky.
So ask her for a list of ideas... then that way you will reduce your chances of wasting money on something she does not like.

Or what about a Bike? Or skateboard?
Skechers "Shuffles" shoes?? My daughter likes those. http://www.skechers.com/girls

all the best,
Susan

If you are considering an Ipod, check out the Apple website under the refurbished ones. They are a lot cheaper, carry the exact warranty a new one has, and you can add an extended warranty if you want though I do recommend getting a heavy-duty cover for it so she won't get it scratched up or break it if it drops. I'm sure if will break on cement or the like but so far, I've dropped mine several times on carpeted floors and it's not hurt it. Our daughter has one too. She's 13yo. I got her a heavy-duty cover for hers as well. It prevents all those scratches and such. It comes with clear covers that fit over the screen and buttons.

Griffin Technology online has a headphone cord addition that allows you to control volume and switch to the next song all from a cord that plugs in between the Ipod and the ear phones. It won't on older models but there is a listing of which models it does work on.

I know what you mean about having a child with everything and no idea what to get them. For us this year it's a matter of money more than anything else.

Something I have done in the past for both our girls is hit the Bath & Body Works outlet store and get a variety of their products like shampoo, hand-sanitizer (during cold and flu season b/c I have 2 autoimmune diseases, Lupus (SLE) and Sjogren's so it helps reduce the threat I will get sick even though I am still caught up in the last stomach bug that went through the school system and came home to me). Add lotion in either full sizes or in travel sizes. The travel sizes are generally sold for X number of bottles for X price. Pick a variety of them. You may even want to get their bathtub Oatmeal additive for their baths.

You can pick up a wooden basket of any sort and wrap it with clear or rather translucent yet colored plastic style wrap with a bow on top. This can be a small or as large as you want to make it. Get the paper tissue for when you use the bags to poof under and in the bottom of your basket. to make it a bit interesting and prettier vs plain... You can even toss in a little confetti with Christmas colors or glittery colors to lighten things up when she opens it.

The large bottles of lotion or even candles with a few travel size items or Gardener's Friend hand salve or Rose Lip Balm is great to put into decorative bags with the tissue paper to make it decorative and you can knock out gifts for co-worker's, family, and friends.

I like the idea of a piece of jewelry. Maybe something from Tiffany's that she will have for a long time and getting the little blue box is always special. Or maybe a "luxury" brand hand bag. I know you'd mentioned she has a lot of purses and such, but didn't mention which brand. Ugg boots are very popular, but again, you mentioned she has a lot of shoes.
Is a digital camera something she would want/use? I always loved having a new camera, even at that age.

what about if you give her a coupon book with 12 coupons in it. one for each month to places she likes to eat. there could be repeats. then once a month you and her go out to dinner. just the two of you. i bet she would charish the memorys for a life time. just a thought. hope you can find something neat for her as her child hood time is coming to an end and you will have a young women sitting across from you. god bless and merry christmas.
