Christening Gift?

My husband was invited to a Christening for the son of someone he once worked with. We have never been to such an event, and we are unsure if it is customary to bring a gift for the child. And if so, what would be appropriate? There will be a big party afterward with a jumphouse for the kids, and food and beverages. Thanks for your help!

Yes, I would take a little something to acknowledge the event. A religious book is a good idea special/VERY practical/ and economical....maybe even two -- a little one board book if it is a baby that they can hold and "read" and then another story book that they can enjoy when they get older.

yes, It is customary to bring a small gift like a cross, bible, biblical book. You might want to go to a christian book store.
When my son was baptized I received a rosary w/case, crosses, bible, biblical book.
Hope this helps.

Since you are not related, make it simple but respectful.

I would suggest a card with cash in it for the baby's piggy bank/bank account. The amount will depend on how close to the family your husband is now so use your own judgement on that. The card store has cards for Christenings that are very nice, too.

I hope this helps.

C.,
Hobby Lobby and Mardel's carry photo frames with a religious message. My sister gave me one for my son's christening that says "Bless This Baby." These places also carry christening cards. I have a suggestion related to your own children. Depending on their ages, you might want to prepare them for the church service. They might have questions regarding the baptism and communion service and what they mean.
