Well we are thrilled to find out that we are having a baby girl in april, however during the sono the tech said she has chloroid plexus cyst's on her brain but everything else looked great.....My doctor said its up to us if we want to have a level 2 ultrasound or just wait till 26 weeks and re-do the sono....anyone have any experience with these?

What can I do next?

Yes. My daughter's ultrasound showed CPC at 18 weeks. Everything else was perfect. At 24/26 weeks they were gone - just as my Maternal/Fetal specialist and my OB/GYN said would happen.

Apparently, 3 out of every 100 18-20 week US will show CPC - making it not very rare. Apparently, if there are other markers (mis-shapen head, club feet, bowel issues, etc) then there could be a genetic problem.

My MF Specialist was so sure that everything was ok that she recommended that I NOT get Amnio done as the procedure presented more of a risk.

In the end, all was fine. My OB said that she has never seen a fetus with CPC and no other markers NOT clear up by 26 weeks.

I think that you should go ahead and get the level 2. I can tell you not to panic but the next six weeks will be a little scary. But if your Dr. is reassuring you that all will be ok, then I'm sure it will be.

Good luck - be well.

My sister spent her whole first pregnancy worried sick about two cysts in her baby girl's brain, they found them during a routine US. My niece was and is completely healthy (she is 15 months), the cysts had disapear the second time they did the ultrasound later in the pregnancy.
Try not to worry I'm sure your baby will be fine, I was doing research when my sister told me about her baby and it seems to be a pretty common find during ultrasounds. Doctors get worried if there are several markers+ the cysts which is not your case.
Congrats on your baby girl!

omg! my son had these too and none of my friends or family had heard of it so i thought the worst! (wish i'd known about mampedia then. lol) but anyways, my son had them and they disappeared or dissolved on their own. I read somewhere that even if they don't disappear, its not a guarantee your child will have a disease, the CPC is just like an indicator that something could be wrong. Kind of like if you have fair skin and red hair you're more likely to get skin cancer, but those qualities don't guarantee you'll have skin cancer. You know? Well, hope this helps some and good luck with your baby girl!!!

Yes! And unfortunately my doctor scared the hell out of me (unintentionally). He didn't really give an option about the leve 2 u/s; just instructed me to have one so that they could get additional measurements. The cyst's are considered to be a soft marker for Down's Syndrome. The level 2 gives the sonographer a better look and he/she is able to get measurements of nose, eyes, arm length, etc that are other markers of DS. They would then look at all this information together and see if it appears the baby may have DS.
HOWEVER, the cysts are extremely common! I found this out after much worry and research. There has even been a study suggesting babies with the cysts perform better in school :) I won't know this for awhile b/c my little one is only 8 months!
I'm sure the cysts will go away on their own and you have nothing to worry about. The level 2 u/s can assure you of that or you could wait until the 26 week u/s.
Congrats on your pregnancy!
