Just wondered if anyone has had success with chiropractic care of a neborn with reflux? my 5 week old is on previcid 2 times a day. Helping for the most part but I'd love to now have to give it to him at all. If you've had success with chiro care what did they do, how long did it take to help? May have to pay out of pocket so not sure how expensive this would be as well. Did it hurt them?
Thanks

My brother would projectile puke all day long. He wouldn't gain any weight. Then, when he was a year old, my mom took him to the chiro for his severe reflux and did a tiny adjustment and my brother hasn't had it since. He still has reflux, but not nearly as bad. He is now 19.

My husband is a chiropractor and has adjusted my daughter since the day she was born. It doesn't hurt them, when we think of adjusting we think of how adults get adjusted, it's not the same for babies. My husband only used two fingers to adjust our daughter when she was that young, you wouldn't have known he was evening doing anything. I highly recommend you get a chiro that specializes in children though. They usually take more classes and continuing education in pediatrics. I would research and find a chiro you feel comfortable with, then ask if they can help. Some acid reflux is caused by the diaphragm muscles not being fully developed and it doesn't keep the acid down. If that's the case then it probably adjusting probably won't help much. How long treatment takes all depends on the severity and cause of the problem.

My son had reflex and was on previcid as well. I took him to a chriopractor around 3 months and it did help. It was about a 20 minute appointment and they massaged his back. It didn't hurt him at all. My insurance covered it so it was just my co-pay. Otherwise it would have been $40.

I go monthly to a chiro and around 1 yrs old I started taking him once in a while if he got a cold.

He's 3 1/2 now and goes to the chiro every few months and loves it. He even rubs my back and pretends he's a chiro.

I too, took my LO to have treatment when he was little. I think it helped if I went on a bi-weekly basis. I could tell when I missed an appointment. This also helped him sleep through the night much sooner.

My son who is now 2.5 went to a chiro for GERD when he was only a couple weeks old. We did about 3-5 visits. It seemed to at least help him sleep a little more comfortably on the days that we went, but I didn't see any long-term improvement. I'm not sure how long we were expected to take him. We went the route of using medicines (2 kinds and I think Prevacid was the last one we used). He grew out of his GERD well before his first birthday if I recall.

I had great luck using a chiropractor for my oldest who had severe ear infections and reflux. I was tired of giving him mmeds & he was tired of taking them & i remembered she had said if Ihad problems with himto bring him in. I totally kicked myself in the butt for not going sooner. He was 4 days when I took him the first time - he was having a muscle spasm from getting stuck during child birth. After that, I got caught up in his peds & meds until he was about 15mths old & it was a nightmare I totally regret! He actually enjoyed going to the chiropractor & when he was feeling really bad, he would sleep for hours after going because he was starting to feel better. It never hurts to try it. We didn't go on a schedule, just as needed & I totally lucked out & the lady I saw did not charge for children under the age of 6 years! She now has a pediatric chiropractor in her office, so I believe that has changed. Good luck! Also, my peds even allowed me to give my son thick rice cereal bottles for his reflux before giving meds (& that did help but he ended up 2 anyways) & he was only weeks old. I know that's not the norm & it wasn't then, but they agreed it helps. It also depends on the "type" of reflux.

We didn't have any success with Chiro for Reflux unfortunately but knew many people who did. I would certainly give it a try. if you can help him naturally rather than the meds thats always best. but....if he needs the meds don't feel bad either. My DS had severe GERD and nothing natural was helping, meds were necessary to keep him safe, so know that sometimes things are out of the control of natural methods but they certainly can't hurt. Now at almost 3 we are able to control the reflux with herbs and no prevacid

Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes best thing ever for a little one suffering from reflux, helped our son out an amazing amt. Make sure you see one that works with pediatric care. Not just one who does adults. My son would actually start to get ecited when we walked into the office it helped him out so much.

I wish I would have know someone who had taken a baby to a chiropractor when my daughter had colic! I'd heard about it but was real leery. Then I went to an inservice about chiropractors and ear infections. After I talked to the chiro about treatment for her constipation I started taking her. She had been on miralax for about 9 months by then and my older daughter had been on it for 7 years and a year or so of behavior therapy. It seems to have done a world of difference! I had to stop for about 3 weeks now she's hurting again. :( The chiro didn't hurt her at all. You could barely tell he was doing anything more than lifting her up or walking his fingers down her back. I really wish I would have tried it when she was younger.

Yes! Great Idea! But I would see an Osteopath. they are way more expensive, but I would trust it more on an infant (they are MDs). We took out daughter when she was 3 months old, after we found out about it (wish we had gone earlier) she was cured after 2 visits!

Hi there.
All 3 of my boys were on zantac for reflux. I now have them all on ultimate aloe juice. It got rid of the reflux and boosts their immune systems. This is the one I use. The strawberry kiwi tastes like a freeze pop so the kids love it. They drink it all the time. They will absorb what they need and pee out the rest....it's all natural. I love it. If you have any questions feel free to message me.

My son has been seeing a chiro weekly since he was 3 weeks old. He has never minded, but make sure you choose a chiro who does family care - not all of them do. It shouldn't hurt them.

Drs said he had reflux at a few months old, but I refused to put a baby that young on meds, so I stepped up the chiro care, nursed and kept him upright for a little while after, and elevated the head end of his mattress. No reflux issues w/in a matter of weeks.

The meds scare me bc they are NOT tested and approved for children. Even meds routinely prescribed for infants have not been tested/approved for kids under two years of age. I don't believe in putting those things into their new little systems! We don't know all the long-term effects, so I'd try to manage as naturally as you can at first.
