Hello

I've heard about Chiropractic care and how beneficial it can be for young children. Can you give me some advice on how it can beneficial? My little one can be fussy at times especially around big crowds, my sister in law mentioned seeing a Chiropractor to help him. She never mentioned how it could help him, so I'm not sure what she meant by it.

Thanks.

Hi Marisa,

When I was pregnant with my daughter (who was breech), my midwife suggested acupuncture, and a chiropractic consult with Dr. Marilyn Moss. She was wonderful. She is highly experienced in the treatment of women, both pre-natal and post partum and she is phenomenal with infants and kids. She has made it her specialty and I highly recommend her. She is a great listener and a superb educator. She is such a nurturing person and such an advocate for women's health, that I think she would be able to talk to you about your concerns and help you decide whether this is right for your baby and you. She is very open and genuine and goes above and beyond to help most people. (She did this for me and I consider her a very special person because of it).

She still keeps in touch even though I am not using any of her services at the moment.

You can read her bio at the site below.

Her contact # is: ###-###-#### (Cell)
She previously worked at the Artemis Healing Center in Los Gato but as of April, she will be at a new location:

The Core Clinic
###-###-####
996 Saratoga Ave
San Jose CA 95129

I think she would be more than happy to chat with you about your concerns and would be an appropriate person to explain how pediatric chiropractic care can benefit M. and baby.

Good Luck!
S.

While I believe that chiropractors can do a wonderful job of alleviating muscle and joint pain associated with all sorts of injuries/conditions related to the back, I do NOT believe that one should take their children, much less infant, to one.
A chiropractor is not a doctor. They do not attend medical school (they do attend chiropractic school) or earn a medical degree, and I would much rather a doctor do the poking around when it comes to my childs spine. Despite what people may claim, a chiropractor cannot "cure" anything (nasal allergies, food allergies, lactose intolerance, anxiety, mental illness, etc) but do help diminish, alleviate, or and some cases "cure" (through continued care) back/neck/shoulder/joint pain. Does it make logical sense that an adjustment of the neck or back can cure any of the aforementioned conditions? Not in my book.
Your childs temperament and reaction to a large group of noisy strangers has nothing to do with what a chiropractor can do for the spine. It is developmentally normal and appropriate for children as well as adults.
I have gone to chiropractors for neck and back issues at several points in my life, and my mother has managed a chiropractic office for 25 years. Call the chiropractor that she works for "new age" but he agrees that any chiropractor that claims to be able to cure things not related to the spine is not reputable. It does great things for my back, but I would be really scared to take my kid to one, much less one I dont know, if not recommended to visit by the pediatrician.

I took both of my sons to the chiropractor as infants. It's not as scary as people make it out to be...actually not scary at all! If you have a chiropractor you trust find out if they are experienced in working with small children. They do not do adjustments like they do on adults so don't worry. It's very gentle and can really help with things mentioned already as well as constipation, and in the case of my son - asthma type symptoms. Birth can be very rough on a baby's body as you can imagine so making sure everything is in alignment after is a good idea. Also as they hit the walking stage and fall down a lot it's good to have them checked periodically too. Chiropractic can have an effect on many things you wouldn't imagine. My friend's daughter was extremely consitpated as an infant and after a trip to the chiropractor they were in need of a diaper change before they could even get back to the car. Good luck!

I am a firm believer in Chiropractic for children. My chiropractor began adjusting my twins at 3 weeks in the Neonatal ICU. They were born 8 weeks premature and very tiny. Michael could not keep food down and very poor wieght gain. After the 1st adjustment more of his meals "stayed down" and slowly day by day he grew stronger and gained ounces. I also previously worked for a Chiropractor and learned how your spine is connected to nerves that is connected to every part of your body, oddly enough including your emotions. I know Chiropractic may be scary thought to take a child/infant to, especially if you are skeptical. If you find one that you feel confortable with you may be surprised. A chirpractor and his "magic" adjustments actually helped me get my system in proper order and why I have my beautiful twin boys.

I took my infants to Better Health Chiropractic in Rocklin - they are fabulous. It helped my infants tremendously with colic and they were less fussy. I highly recommend it. Dr. Abate will give a free consultation I believe.

I think finding the right chiropractor makes all the difference. For me that person was Dr. Campbell who specialized in prenatal and pediatric care. I started seeing her during my pregnancy after experiencing back, neck and even carpal tunnel pain related to my pregnancy and the immediate relief had me hooked. And even after birth I went in for a visit after just 3 days for an adjustment for me and my newborn. She is very gentle and explains what she's going to do before doing it which always makes me feel more comfortable. As one of the other responders noted, birth and even later as kids start walking can cause mis-alignments that a chiropractor can help with to ensure that your child continues to develop appropriately and because of the many nerves tied to your spine it can help with other chronic pains or discomforts your child may be experiencing.

If you want to give Dr. Campbell a try you can reach her at:###-###-####

I hear that many people take their children to get or have an adjustment by a chiropractor. I grew up from a family of 14 and we never could afford anything like that. I believe that is not important, exercise is the best thing. I would never put my child in the hands of a chiropractor, because they do just adjustment from xray and other things. These are our children and they should have a recommendation from a doctor if it is necessary to see a chiropractor. Don't do it!!!

I am not sure how it will help with being around big crowds, but I was in a car accident with my five week old son. The EMTs look him over before he was taken out of the car seat or moved at all. My M. and sister were with me as well, the three of them were taken to the hospital and thank god every one was ok for the most part. After that my son was always crying I couldn't get him comfertable at all. Someone told me to take him to the Chiropractor, I was really not sure about that becsause he was so small but I did take him. The dr. turned my son upside down and at that time I started to panic what was he doing to him. He was still small enough that he couldn't conrtol his own muscles yet and when the dr. put him up side down you could tell what muscles were spasing in his neck he had whip lash from the accident. The dr rubed his back didn't pop it though just rubed it and with in 30 mins after that he was asleep for almost 4 good hours. His neck hurt so bad that he couldn't sleep. So it did him reaaly good. but for big crowds I don't know maybe it would help in a way we don't understand it is worth a try.
