Chimney

I was wondering if anybody had any advice about what to do if my child asks how Santa can deliver gifts without a chimney (we do not have a fireplace in our home). If somebody could let me know what they would say, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

What can I do next?

We don't have a chimney either and I have a skeleton key that we leave outside the door. The key doesn't fit any of the doors in the house, but Santa's magic will make it work. It's fun to have the kids see that it won't work in the doors. Yet Christmas morning the presents are there and they know that Santa was able to get in. Good luck!

I tell my daughter that Santa got the key to the city at the parade on Thanksgiving. We watch it every year and wait for that so that she's sure that Santa can get into the houses. We have a fireplace, but some of her friends don't and I wanted to cover my tracks before she gets smart enough to ask any questions!

Santa (St. Nick) is one of Jesus's best friends and Jesus makes everything happen. He performs miracles.

I used to tell my children that since Santa could do magic, he made a temporary fireplace appear so he could get in and then made it disapear when he left. There's a scene in a movie, I think it's the Tim Allen Santa Clause movie where this happens and my young adult children were amazed at how I know such things. lol

Read him "The night before Christmas book and then take him to the Genesee Valley Mall to see Santa....That one has a "Magic light " in his glove and let Santa show it to him. Santa can then explain the "Magic" he uses to get the gifts inside the house that way your off the hook and he is very happy.

I would tell him Santa has a special ladder to climb down from the roof and a key to all the children's houses where there is no chimney. Tell him lots of children have houses w/o chimney's and Santa doesn't like to go down the chimney anyway!

My husband and I were talking about this the other day. He said that he didn't have a chimney as a kid and his mom always said that Santa was magic. Everyone has door with a key hole and Santa could shrink down get in the house (with all the gifts) through the keyhole. I don't know about you but the way that I picture this is just as good as the chimney :- )
My husband always said that with that story him and his sister always tried to look through the keyhole and couldn't so imagining Santa fitting through that was amazing!!!!
Hope that helped - good luck! Happy Holidays!

Last year my fiance built a cardboard chimney for our 2yr old daughter and she loved it.
All u need is cardboard, red construction paper and a black crayon to draw out the brick patterns, yellow and orange construction paper for the flames on the logs! good luck.
He built it in the corner of the room, so it almost looked real.

B. ~ This is what we are starting this year... "Santa's Magic Key." You can actually purchase one at most Hallmark stores or make your own version. It is just a silver skeleton style key that has a tag attached with a saying. Each Christmas Eve you and your child hang it or leave it in a special spot outside for Santa to get inside the house. Emphasize the "magic" part so they don't wonder why they can't use the key or make it work. Let them know that it's only for Santa. When Santa's finished with key, he leaves it by the empty plate of cookies and milk. We are leaving a personal note from Santa near the plate also. We are also making reindeer food to leave with Santa's cookies. A little dry oatmeal sprinkled with a little glitter (obviously not edible to us). Hope this helps you. Email me if you'd like the saying for the key... (I don't have it handy right at the moment...)

I would watch the Santa Clause with your child. I believe that is the movie that showed a heat vent magically morph into a fireplace.

What an inquisative kid I have lived in a mobile home all my life and do now with my kids and I do remember my kids asking the same question. Kids just want an answer they can accept as close to reality, if you have a vent on top for a furnace well thats your chimney. Santa uses magic to come down the vent and poof in the living roon. Personaly with my kids i told them we leave the door unlocked so santa can get in and out easily. That way if we are loading gifts in and out of hiding spaces outside they think santa has been here if they hear. Good Luck

Tell him that Santa's has elves who don't make toys...some make special keys so that he can open the door at people's houses who don't have chimneys. My parents told us that when we were little and it made sense at the time!

Also if you mix some glitter with some oatmeal you can tell your little one that it is magical reindeer food and have him/her sprinkle it on the front or back yard. That way the reindeers can eat it while Santa is inside and the sparkles will show the reindeers that they should land on the ground and not the roof.

I hope this works for you! Happy Thanksgiving.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents~ if you decide to use the Santa Key idea, you can purchase old fashioned skeleton keys at Wal-Mart.....usually back in the automotive dept. where they make keys. Good Luck!

Tell your child Santa is magical and not all houses have chimneys, so he uses his magical snow dust to get inside.
