Children's "Buy Now" Consignment Shops in Baltimore County

I've been looking to sell some of my son's things which we don't need anymore, or that he's grown out of. All of the items are in EXCELLENT condition (those which were more in a 'worn' condition I donate, and in 'poor' or 'stained' I throw out). I was looking into this one place called Once Upon A Child, but upon reading some reviews on it, I'm hesitant. Many reviews state that they really low ball customers- paying only $1 per item, and then of course re-selling them for MUCH more. I refuse to be practically robbed for my items; ESPECIALLY those which still have tags on them, or are premium quality brands like Ralph Lauren, Kenneth Cole, Nike, etc. I wanted to know if anyone has had experiences at this particular place that they can share; or if you can suggest an alternate place in the area.

Yes, I know I have the option of eBay or Craigslist. I've sold things by this method before, but they also carry with them a certain level of hassle (e.g., posting several items, shipping, meeting up with indecisive buyers, etc.) I'm also a member of another women's/wedding/mom's site, and once before I sold a huge lot of stuff to another mom on there. I'm still open to all of these things, but I just wanted to try out a consignment shop in my area. I've sold lots of my own clothes at Plato's Closet before, so I like the idea of taking items and getting the money right away.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Kid to Kid in Cranbrook Shopping Center is fantastic! They give you a choice of cash or 20% more in store credit. I highly recommend them both for consigning and shopping. I know that Lily Pad in Towson takes the higher end brand name stuff but I think they are a regular consignment shop, meaning you get the money once your item has sold instead of on the spot. Also, TotSwap is a great option. They have sales in a few locations (Frederick, Gaithersburg, and Timonium) a few times a year. You register and set prices for all the stuff you want to sell. You have the option of whether you want to include your items in the half-price day and/or donate them after the sale. Sales are typically 3 day weekend sales (Fri, Sat, Sun, with Sunday being the half-price day.) I've made money there too and you don't feel like you are being cheated because you are setting the price.

In the past I have taken some used baby stuff to Kid-to-Kid in Cockeysville. They seem reasonable - buying a used name brand shirt for $1-2 then reselling for $4.50. I took a nice Jeep stroller there and got $30 for it, but saw them selling it for $65 (I was there to see a man pay $65 for it and I almosted fainted). But, regardless where you go they are going to always sell it for much more - that is how they stay in business. I know they offer you 20% more if you choose store credit, which I have done a few times. Kid-to-Kid might not sound reasonable to you if you are looking to get a lot of money back, but I was happy to walk away with a few extra dollars and much more space in my son's closet.

Hello! I have no personal experience with consignment shops but my sister is involved in Totswap, a consignment event that occurs at least twice a year (maybe more often) at the Timonium Fairgrounds. Google it, it's pretty cool. You lable and price your own items and the event takes care of the rest. So you get a portion of what your item actually sells for (if it sells). I've been there twice and I've been very impressed with the organization of the event.

I have yard sales and have had lots of success with them. I had one where a woman came and asked me how much for the entire table of clothes, she bought all of the clothes, plus a bunch of other stuff too!
