It is primarily calculated by the non custodial parent's income, and then the living expenses of yours like rent etc. Also child care expenses can be figured into the equation but I chose to leave it out.

Both parents income, other child support owed, other children and who has the child for what amount of time.

They ask both parents for all your financial information...bills, CC debt, mortgage payments, and your last 2 years of tax information.

Hope this helps.

they go by what he makes or what she makes.. how old the child is... Make sure you get enough .. as children grow.. costs grow too. my friend got child support when her child was 3.. she is now 11 and things have changed.. clothes more expensive, after school activites, after school care, and the list goes on.. she feels cheated.. but doesn't have the money to go back to court.. so make sure what you get will be good enough as the children get older.. make sure you stay in touch with the father and work things our with him for the sake of the children.. it's better to be friendly than to have a hateful relationship.. it's easier for all involved.. good luck

Hi B.,

I'm pretty sure every state has its own calculation guidelines which takes into consideration your income, his income, how many children there are, things like that. You could probably get hold of your local health and welfare office and ask for the child support dept., and they would probably be able to give you more info.

you should be able to go online to your county's website and download it for free. Good luck.
