My son recived the shot for chicken pox almost 2 weeks ago now and he now has a rash all over is body that is little red dots and today we noticed a few bigger red dots. Im wondering if he didn't get the rash from the shot? Eaither that or he was also taking amoxacilian (sp?) and could be alergic to that, but I have no idea. Its just weird! Hes not itching it or anything, but I am wondering if anybody else has had and reactions to the shot?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I took my son to the doctor today becasue his rash wasn't getting any better. He has 5ths desese (sp). It should be gone in the next week or two. And we can only hope that when i was little that i was exposed to it at some point becasue i am pregnant and there are some things that could affect my baby if i haven't.

I don't know if that is from the shot or not but my son is allergic to penicillin and that is the reaction he got when we found out about his allergy to that. He was covered in red spots and as the day went on they got bigger and more of them. Good luck.

My daughter was allergic to zithromax(antibiotic)4thor 5th time being prescribed it, and had welt like hives all over her. They went away all on their own within hours.

I would call your nurse line or bring him in right away.

My son got a rash about a week after getting the chicken pox vaccine. I took him in to the doctor fearing he had gotten chicken pox but I was told it was just a side effect from the shot.

Hi H.,
I have 4 children, 3 of which have had the shot and none of them had that experience. Also, if this is his first time on Amoxicillin, it usually is not an allergic reaction but it can happen. THe Dr. has told me that it usually shows up on the 2nd or 3rd time around. I am allergic to it and so is 1 of my kids. I would call your 24 hour nurseline or the Dr. right away in the morning. I would think the shot would've shown up sooner if something were to come from that. I would also wait to give him another dose of the medicine until you talk to his Dr.

I'd still call the office but I think it's from the shot. It's totally common to have a reaction to shots up to 2 weeks after (my daughter recently had that shot and it's what they told me).

I'd call the nurse. If they want you to bring him in you'll get seen right away. If they think it's Chicken Pox they usually make you come in a "back" door and put you right in a room. The doctor comes in within minutes and gets you back out.

I know that because we thought that our son got Chicken Pox after getting the shot. The doctor however, told us that his spots were mosquito bites from camping...I never knew that mosquito bites could look so identical to Chicken pox - red bumps with a white head. Crazy!

But it was nice to get in and out withing 5-10 minutes.

Well first of all take him into a DR to get checked over. BUT my daughter has sensitive skin and about 2 weeks after she had her chicken pox shot she got little red pimples it looked like a rash. I took her in and she had chicken poxs! I was like what the heck she just got the shot! But the DR told me it isn't 100% preventable but it makes it so that poxs are not spreadable. She didn't run a fever or anything, it didn't slow her down at all, and she wasn't contagious either.

Definitely call the nurse line and ask what they want you to do. They will probably have you bring him in just to be safe. If he is allergic to amoxicillin, he would be itchy, swollen, and have the rash. (I am allergic to all -cillins so I know from first hand how uncomfortable it is)
Honestly? He may have a mild case of Chicken Pox. My daughter got them, TWICE, after being vaccinated! The shot actually gave them to her, then she got them from my nephew. My nephew and neice also got them after vaccination, Brian twice and Lucile once. I actually decided to find someone that has chicken pox so I don't have to vaccinate my next child, (but that's a little off subject)the vaccination can actually cause you to get shingles as an adult. Getting chicken pox stops this from happening...

Good Luck!

sounds like heat rash, or a reaction to the amox. chicken pox is red dots that turn in blisters that can appear any where from eyes, to the bottom of there feet even. back when my oldest were little there was not a vacination. i have little ones again and they had the shot. maybe give the child a bath in an oatmeal bath or ask the pharmacy. i cant remember the name you prinkle it in the bath water. i have a bottle of the caladryl clear. you can rub that on him. it is supposed to help with rashes.

Hi H.,
My daughter had the same thing after taking amoxacillian. The doctor said it isn't related however. The doctor told me that children can get post illness hives as their bodies are coming out of an illness. (She had an ear infection and cold she was just getting over.) He just told me to have her take benadryl. Hers were gone in a day and a half.
You'd want to get the dosing of the benadryl from the doctor depending on your sons age though.

Bless your husband and family......take care.

Sounds more like Fifth's disease. This is when a virus (similar to colds/flu) comes out as little red spots on the body. Does your son have flushed cheeks? It looks like he has just finish running round outside kind of a look. Now I may have the name a bit wrong but I have had several parents bring their children to my house to ask me if they had chicken pox in the last 3 months. I'm an "old mom" who's children have really had chicken pox cuz there was no vaccine back then. LOL!

None of these children had chicken pox but their docs (different ones) said it was this Fifth's disease which usually clears up on it's own within a few days altho 1 child did have to have antibiotics. Check with your doctor since your son has already been on antibiotics for something else.
