So What Happened?

Thank you to all of you for your responses! I know it isn't something that disappears overnight...unfortunately. Also, to the poster who recommended lanolin...THANK YOU! I never thought of that. I have a whole tube left over that I was wondering what to do with!

I use Aquaphor all the time. My son has the same problem. His first pediatrician recommended a cream with a small dose of steroids in it. It worked, but I was very hesitate to put it on his face, so I didn't use it that often. His pediatrician now recommended Aquaphor and it works wonders!

We used Aquafor. It protects them and moisturizes.

Aquaphor works well, but so does plain old vasoline. Use it before you head outside, and again when you come in. Follow up at bedtime if needed :)

Try Bag Balm, always works great and a little goes a long way. You can find it at CVS or walgreens.

Did you breast feed by any chance so that you might have Lanolin laying around some where in your house? Give that stuff a shot! Consider it.. you put it on your nipples and you don't have to remove it to feed.. so it doesn't matter if its on their cheeks and a tiny amount of it might be ingested.

Two other good choices are Aquaphor (very thick vaseline type lotion) or Vanicream which is a no perfume/dye cream that is just awesome. Both are expensive, but the tubs/tubes will last a long long time. One tub of Vanicream lasted a year and a half with me and my husband using it constantly.

Never lotions, only use mild creams, nice thick ones and frost it on him like frosting a cake, we use Rite Aid generic Mositurizing Therapy Cream for dry skin, it is about $5.00 less then name brand Eucerin which has the same ingridents. My son also get red chapped cheeks, I cream him up real good at bedtime.

My babies always had this problem in the winter too. I found the best trick is appling moisture right after bath or washing their little face. It traps the moisture in and then creates a barrier. I found this new product I LOVE....called Califorina Baby. You can get it at babys r us, buy buy baby or www.diapers.com. It's all natural healing ingredients i think it's organic too!

A&D Ointment is wonderful for chapped cheeks, as well as for a delicate, sore nose and dry lips during/after a winter cold.

I've had the same issue with my kids, especially in winter when they're also teething and drooling a lot. We prefer products with natural ingredients and they have sensitive skin, so we love Lu Sa Organics' Chin and Cheek Balm. It smells great, is very gentle and works like a charm. I put a little on after washing faces in the morning and at night and when we go outside. Also helps to wipe a little under their noses to make blowing easier and keep that tender area soft during sniffIe season. It also works great on my little babe's hands which get dry from her sucking on them. Can't say enough about all Lu Sa's products. Available on their website and at Coops and Natural Food Stores. Happy New Year!
