Hi M.. I would try the soft nipple sippys so they seem like a bottle. Also, I got this from the WIC office, to dilute his milk in his bottle. Give him 4oz milk 2 oz water. Do not offer anything else in the bottle. If he wants pure milk, juice or water or whatever, only offer it in the sippy. After a day or two dilute the milk again in the bottle to half milk half water. Then to 4oz water 2 oz milk. Keep offering pure milk and juices and such in the sippy. Then you'll get to only water in the bottle and everything with flavor in the sippy. This is what I did with my daughter and after the second time diluting the bottle she wouldnt take it. She also would only use the soft nipple sippys... we tried a lot of different types till we found one she liked. Maybe take your son to the store with you to choose a sippy himself.

Well, hope this helps! GOOD LUCK!

my son was the same, it seemed no matter what i put it the cup, he just wouldnt take it, he was 13 months when i finally got tired of it and threw away the bottles, then i tempted him with chocolate milk in the cup and he started taking it from then on. My daughter is almost 11 months and she's been using a sippy cup for about 3 months now, she just took to it right away, but she is still very much attached to her pacifier. So my suggestion it to toss the bottles, if they are not there, then he has no choice, and maybe tempt him with a new drink like chocolate milk, if your worried about the sugar and whatnot, try Ovaltine, its actually really yummy, and its vitamin fortified.

My son is almost 18 months old and he hates sippy cups sometimes and takes them sometimes. He also still takes a bottle at naptime and bedtime. I switched in cups with straws instead of sippy cups and he seems to like those a little more consistently. He doesn't usually finish what's in the cup, but at least he's not using the bottle so much and I found something he likes more than sippy cups. They make some (Nuby, Munchkin, Playtex) that are spill-proof, but they still leak some. I guess that's better than a full cup dumped on the floor!

Have you tried the sippy that has a squishy nipple like a bottle?

Both of my daughters did really well transitioning to just a regular old cup, as early as 12 months. I only use sippy cups with my youngest now because she's realized it's fun to dump the contents out into her plate, onto the floor, etc.(she's fast approaching 2). If I were better about staying with her at the table, I probably wouldn't even have that problem. : )

Anyway, don't be afraid to just try offering a cup minus the sippy.

Hi M.,
Have you ever thought to try and give him a real cup just smaller in size? I work with one year olds in a daycare and they only drink out of real cups, sippys are not allowed. Yes they spill but they are learning. And if hes not taking the sippy then its worth a try. If you dont want to do cups maybe you could get the sippy cups with the soft top so its more like a bottle and slowly introduce a harder top sippy.

I transitioned my kids with the Nuby brand and then to other sippy cups. The Nuby has a soft top so it still kind of feels like a bottle! Dont know if it will help but it worked for us!:)
