Chafed Nose.

My whole family has been sick all week but my four year old has had it the worst. For the past 3 days she has been blowing her nose every 5 minutes and her nose is understandably chafed. We tried a little bit of Aquifor when she first said it hurt but now it is starting to bleed a bit when she wipes it.

Any tried and true ways to help alleviate the pain?

What can I do next?

Neosporin helps.

When my youngest had this problem, we used orajel to help with the pain...just a TEENY TINY bit...

You could try using lanolin. When my daughter was about 3, she had a really bad cold. And of course, she would wipe instead og really blow. She got a really dry, scaly nose. She would scream if I came mear her. I was nursing my son so I had some lanolin I used myself. I put that on her, especially at night, and it really helped. Within a few days, it was healing very well. Probably would have been faster if she did not have to keep wiping.

Great advice so far but I would also switch to Puffs (or equivalent) tissues with lotion in them.

Yes you need to keep putting Aquaphor or whatever on it…something oily though. Lanolin is a good option too.

When she goes to bed really slather it on! I sometimes put chapstick on my kids noses too if I'm out (or feeling lazy) and that works too but the others work better.

A triple antibiotic ointment like Neosporin will help. And using softer tissues. Puffs.

Vaseline works fine for us.
Actually diaper rash ointment will work too.
It's a matter of creating a barrier between her skin and the snot.

I would suggest using some triple antibiotic ointment on it, also... it has a petroleum base (vaseline type ointment) that will help keep it from getting so chafed, and the antibiotic to help keep from getting a secondary bacterial infection like a staph infection from the runny nose.....

What has always worked for me/us (and my son has environmental allergies that make his sinuses run like a faucet when untreated)... is to buy ONLY the tissues with aloe/lotion in them.

It avoids the issue in the first place, usually.

Once you are there, I'd take a small dab of petroleum jelly and dab the very edges of the nose, right on the inside, too. Just be very careful. It only takes a tiny bit, and you don't want to push it way up into the nostrils... just right around the lip/edges where it gets rubbed with the tissues upon blowing.

Poor kiddo. Sore noses are not a fun thing.

Here's to speedy recoveries for all of you.

Use puffs plus lotion for colds... they help not get the nose so raw. Also when she goes to bed put a little bit of neosporne on her nose

i dab the underside of my schnozz with vick's vapor rub when i'm getting this way. might hurt now that her nose is so raw it's bleeding. so a little antibiotic cream might be necessary.
this is the time for puffs plus lotion.

I have always used a clear, unflavored, unscented chap stick on my nose and raw cheeks during the worst parts of allergy season. It soothes and protects the skin without leaving a lot of residue behind.

Try putting some vasoline on at night before sleep. This will help it heal while not being rubbed off.

CarMax is good for chaffing. It's also good for cuticles around your nail bed preventing hangnails. Poor baby I know how she feels. Good luck.
