If you or your child had cellulitis what were your symptoms? My 22 mth old was stung by a bee last Sat. had a normal reaction local swelling, slightly red, but seemed fine after benadryl and was definitely back to normal the next day. Today he woke from his nap, of course a late nap because we were outside swimming all day, and that same finger is slightly red and swollen. I don't know what the odds are of him re injuring it or being bitten again, but I'm concerned its some type of infection?

He has no fever, doesn't appear to be painful to the touch, he doesn't cry or pull it back, and with it a 100' outside, I can't really tell if its that warm to the touch either! With us heading out for the holiday weekend, I really don't know what to do or if I should even be worried? I gave him benadryl and covered it with Neosporin before I put him down for the night and he seems to be fine! If its the same tomorrow should I call the oncall dr. or just wait until another symptom develops?

I really wish there was a doctor in our family--this guess work sure makes me uneasy!

What can I do next?

I've had cellulitis a few times from mosquitos. For me, (it was on my lower leg) my leg swelled up, turned bright red and was very hard and very hot to the touch. If it gets very red and it spreads (mark it with a pen so you know if it gets bigger) and it feels very hot, then I would call the dr.

I have had cellulitis many times. First I would say if you are concerned at all don't hesitate to call an on call dr. to ease your mind. With my experience the redness spreads and I develop a fever when I have cellulitis but that doesn't mean everyone will have the same reaction. Definitely I would keep an eye on it.

My oldest was scary sick when he had it and it didn't happen a week later. It was very painful for him. He went from a quarter size bug bite (normal for him) to bite that was 4 inches wide overnight. He had a very high fever 104/105, was very very lethargic I had to carry my 5 ft 68 lb 8 yr old into the er because he wouldn't wake up. You'd know if it was hot even with my sons temp that high it felt a lot hotter then the rest of him.
If he isn't acting sick and it doesn't hurt it's probably nothing. If it makes you feel better call your oncall that's what they're there for.

It's better to get it checked out. An infection can get out of control pretty quickly. I wouldn't wait, especially since this is a holiday weekend. Around here, urgent care is available on Sat but Sundays and holidays you have to go to the emergency room and it's more expensive.

I had cellulitis. It was red, sort of itchy and painful at the same time and felt warm. I didn't know what it was til it spread from my upper body to my neck and face. If you're concerned your child has an infection, better to catch it early.

My mom had cellulitis last year and it is very painful. So if your boy isnt complaining then it probably isnt cellulitis. I'd just keep an eye on it. He might just be sensitive to stings and so it's taking longer to heal. You might just call an urgent care in your area and ask and see what they say, or maybe call a pharmacy. Something like Bactine might be better for it rather than neo.

Wait. . . Cellulitis as in the "cottage cheese" effect on legs and what not? Or am I thinking of something completely different. Could very possibly be. I'm tired.
