Cell Phones

My daughter and I currently share a family plan from T-mobile. We have unlimited text, 1,000 anytime minutes and we also have my faves. In the end our bill is about $90-$100, without any overage, every month. My question is, is there anyone out there that has a plan with 2 phones and a plan similar that pays less. The end of my 2 year plan is coming up and I am going to explore my options. I know there is Sprint, Verizon, Qwest and Im not sure what else is available as I have always had T-mobile.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone who responded. I am looking into what everyone said. I also wanted to state that not have a cell phone is not an option for me or my daughter. For us it is a safety concern. She is home alone alot and she walks from her bus stop. We both feel safer with her having it.

I would go with sprint. I think they have great coverage and they have a family plan that you get the 2nd phone free. I think my bill for 2 phones come to around 60 bux a month. We have unlimited text and 1400 minutes.

We have tracfone which is a prepaid phone. We often times can find minutes on ebay for cheap. It is a great way to stay within a budget and costs much less than a regular plan. T Mobile also ofters a prepaid plan too. Otherwise ATT ofters a affordable plan too.

Hi S.,

Our family has 4 Tracfones. Each phone is about 20 bucks. Then you just buy however many minutes you want and apply it to the phone. Some models provide free incoming text. Like the V170. Staples has that model. The cards you can buy anywhere or you can purchase minutes online. Our daughter uses the most minutes and that can be $30.00 month. The rest of us can get by on less. For our daughter, we bought her a double minute card and so when she adds minutes, she automatically gets twice the amount. It is a money-saver in her situation. No contracts. We are rural and get great signals. Good luck with whatever you decide!

My husband sells cell phones at the Best Buy in Lakeville. They have Verizon, AT&T and Sprint there, he worked at a different company doing the same thing for 8 years who also sold T-Mobile. He'd be happy to talk to you and tell you what your options are and compare prices for you. If you're interested I will give you his work number, just let me know.

We have US Cellular and their are 4 of us on this. My husband, myself, my 15 yr old daughter and my 12 yr old daughter. Our bill is $120.00 a month. US Cellular has a unlimited text package for $19.95 a month for up to 5 people per plan. So we are all unlimited for just $19.95. We have more than 1000 minutes but not exactly sure if it is 1200 or 1400. WE pay 10.00 for each of the girls to have a phone on our account. Think it is 79.95 for my husband and I and then with the 19.95 text package and then 10.oo for each phone that gets us to $120.00. We do not have easy edge or picture texting that adds on more.

Hope this helps.

I used to have a family plan with Cingular (now AT&T) that I was very pleased with. If you just need a plan to help you and your daughter keep in contact, you can get a plan with only about 300 minutes for around $35. BUT it comes with free calls to all other AT$T customers and rollover minutes. I rarely used the minutes, because most of the other people I called were with AT$T.

I now have a single plan with T-Mobile which I mostly like, but I miss the free calls and I often run out of minutes.

We have AT&T, use to be cingular, and our bill is around $60 bucks... that includes 2 phones, more mintues then we can use (and they have roll over minutes so if you don't use all your mintues they are good forver till you use them), we do not have text but I think that is only another $5 - $10 for unlimited text, and the coverage is great.

Always look for the deal, ask what deal the company is offering on plans and phones so you can figure out how to cut the bill down.

I think that unlimited texting and 1,000 anytime minutes is alot. Look at your actual usage each month. Take an average and call the Tmobile and see if they have a better plan using x amount of min tell them you are going to shop around no one wants to lose customers.

We have a 3 phone plan with At&T.

I tried qwest about 8 years ago and HATED HATED the phone and their coverage

My husband and I have a family plan through Verizon. We share 700 minutes and I have unlimited texting (he does not since he hates to text and rarely does it). We pay roughly $70/month.

personally I think cell phones are really dangerous for kids- their bodies are more susceptible and they are WAY more hooked to using it all the time because they are at that total social stage. Don't use cell phones unless you have to, and keep them away from your kids. They will hate you and think you are lame and so uncool, but at least they will be able to have children when they are older and not get brain cancer. Ban together with your kids friends parents and take the social pressure off of them.

It might be worth a research. Article from the UP Cancer Institute.

Check with your employer about cell discounts. I am a Mary Kay consultant and because of that I get 15% off my bill every month, and can write off the bill because of my business. My husband and I have 1000 minutes, unlimited text and pay $65 and month through T-Mobile. But I know other companies have deals with cell phone companies, just like they have discounts buying GMC vehicles or whatever...

I would really look into Wireless Toyz...It is a new business to SE WI that has comparison of ALL of the cell phone providers, and offers all of their phones and services. They will be able to help you figure out what plan would be the best for you and your daughter all around - price, coverage, features, add-ons, etc.

We just renewed our cell phones earlier, because I was overwhelmed with researching the different providers. Then a few days later, found Wireless Toyz... I am so glad we did.

AND: Even if you didn't buy your phone through them, they can fix it for cheaper than the store you purchased it from!!!

Kristin and Steve Perkins are the owners - (and new parents too...)

We have Verizon wireless-2 phone lines, 2500 minutes, unlimited text and pic text and pay $135/month. We eliminated our home phone since we have 2500 minutes. We also have the nationwide plan, so if you travel, you should include a nationwide plan in your service. We have service everywhere and do not get charged for any roaming at all. We have even drove to CA several times and had service 95% of the drive (only problems we had were occasionally in the mountains & valleys). I'm sure other services have similar things. I know you can go to www.verizonwireless.com and see what they have to offer by picking your plan, phone, etc...and it will tell you what it will cost.

(If you are phone savvy, Verizon does not offer the I Phone, which is a disappointment??)
