Help..I have a cat that has peed on my beautiful suede couch more then one time!!! I've used a carpet scrubber with pet odor cleaning product in it, and did nothing for it. I used a spray, but it only covered the top not deep down inside. Any ideas???? I know I should toss the couch, but it wasn't a cheap couch. It's a georgeous "L" shape couch and it's my absolute favorite. If I can save it from being tossed in the trash somehow I will. Please help with any ideas!!

Dawn, Dawn, Dawn. Cat urine is worse than any other thing you can get on fabrics or carpets! It's worse than mustard, and that's the bad :) We learned a few things in some carpet cleaning classes we attended when we had our own company: Can you remove the suede cover? Is the insides a foam pad or "stuffing"? If the answers are YES and foam pad, you've got it made! Remove the padding and head straight to Joann's or Michael's and have them cut you a new one. If it's YES and stuffing, well, I'd see if an upholsterer can restuff it for you. If the answer is NO, then you need to inject like others have suggested. I recommend contacting janitorial supply store that sells commercial and professional products. Are you in the Akron area? There is a supply place at the corner of Bailey Road and Front Street/Rt 59 in Cuyahoga Falls...across from the Krispy Kreme. I can't remember the name for the life of me! Tell them it's CAT urine because cat and dog urine have different make-ups and therefore different "fixes." Good luck!

You need to really wet it for the enzemes to be nutralized by the cleaners it also could have been your cleaner. Even if it says for pets they are not all equal. I love and swear by Natures Miracle you can get it in pet stores and it comes in gallon jugs or spray bottle and if you don't think it works well enough. Contact the company and you'll get your money back just save your receipt and the jug or bottle for the UPC. I had a small doggie who went from time to time and needed to clean our carpets. It took 2 times but worked. But you have to really wet every thing deep down for it to work.

That's tough..we had a cat that reuined some of our items, too. I never found a product that worked well, but I have an alternate idea.

Can you get a replacement cusion or it is in a non-removable area? Sometimes the manufacturer can provide parts if the item is still current. It may be worth looking into!

I have heard of someong using a syringe to inject the cleaner into the cushions so that it gets inside. I think that they did this with vinegar or some sort of natural cleaner so it didn't hurt to leave it. Good luck!

I use Pet Out, you can buy it at walmart in the pet section. It took the`smell of cat urine out of a car seat, after a sick kitty vet trip. It also works on mattresses when potty training accidents happen. I would try it on a spot first, to make sure the color doesn't fade. It is great on stains too.

We had cats that used to do that. We had to get rid of the cats. Unfortunately, once they start..they just don't stop. It was awful! I tried everything to get them to stop. I did finally get the smell out of the couch. We had to take the cushions out of the covers and soak them in the bathtub in a mix of bleach, detergent and water. The process was so long and drawn out. It was a TON of work! After the cushions were washed, we sat them outside for 3 or 4 days to dry and to air out. We have a cleaner for microfiber (which is what our couch is) and I just cleaned cleaned cleaned the cushion covers. I could have hired someone to clean it and it would have taken a lot less time, but a lot more money. And, again, I would recommend getting rid of the cat. It won't stop peeing there, no matter what you do.

Hi Dawn,

I like the post about replacing the padding...I was going to say that if it was just a cushion, could you get a new cushion from the manufacturer?

Also, Nature's Miracle (cat formula) has helped our carpets. Took awhile, because it has to dry completely; don't know if we'll have a return of the smell when humidity rises...

If the cat is peeing in other inappropriate spots, a call to your vet might be in order. Good luck!

Yikes, I would be upset too. It sounds like you have tried several good things to resolve the problem. Is there a stain or is it just the odor that you cannot get out? If it's the odor you can't get out, I would suggest an air purifier. I'm a consultant for indoor air quality and we can remove odors from the home with our technology. I don't know if we can get the odor out, but we do offer an in home trial to see if it helps. If you are interested, send me a private message and i will get you more info.
Good luck

First, get rid of the cat. (Sorry pet lovers....that's where I draw the line....I'm a dog, cat, hamster, and fish owner....so don't go after me too bad....)

Secondly, if it was an expensive couch, take the money to have it professionally cleaned. Look for someone in your area who does couch cleaning.

Good Luck

If you can find somebody near you that uses Melaleuca products, they have a cleaner called Sol-U-Mel that would totally take care of it for you without hurting your couch. It will sanitize the area AND take care of the smell! My dog peed on the front of our couch and I sprayed it, scrubbed it and the smell and the spot are totally gone! You can buy it from the company w/o being a customer but it's a little pricey but would be worth every penny if it saves your couch. And it's all natural so you don't have to worry about poisoning your kids or animals. Go to www.melaleuca.com and look it up.

You can try contacting your Vet Hospital and see if they carry a product called F.O.N (feline odor neutralizer.) I am not sure if it would work or if it could possibly damage your sofa (you would need to read the bottle)but worth checking out.

Hope this helps

Have you tried baking soda....trying to get it INTO the couch....deeper than the surface? I'd try it and let it set overnight and then vacum. See if that helps. ALSO....there is a product that real estate investors use SPECIFICALLY to get out cat urine smell. See if you can contact a local investor. A good real estate broker might be able to give you the name of it too. Have you looked on the internet?

Hi Dawn~

I work from home with a wellness company and they offer several cleaning products. The products are more natural than those you find in local stores. I (thankfully)haven't had to use any on cat urine but I do know that one of them took skunk spray off a dog. It's a wonderful, versatile cleaner that deodorizes and removes stains (even permanent marker) while disinfecting. I help other moms work from home as well but you can be 'just a customer' by joining us. My website is: www.KidsNeedMomHome.com if you'd like to hit the "get info" button it will then email me your info so I can contact you to give you all the details of the company, our team and the products. Hope I can help. Lots of luck!

I don't know how effective it will be but if you can't get the fabric off you may try saturating it with white vinegar. There is a product called Urine Gone which I have used in the past on things to remove pet urine etc., it has a sensor that shows where it lingers long after it is dry which helps.
I would try the white vinegar first because it will remove stain and odor both.
