Carseat Dilema

Okay so since having my 3rd boy we have "wall to wall" car seats in the back of our cars. I expected this, but today I switched my 5 month old to a regular car seat out of the carrier style. I got into my car to drive and discovered that due to the height of th baby's car seat I cannot see out of the back of my car or utilize my rear view mirror. So that isn't very safe.... Problem is that the booster seats for my older boys are labeled "not for use with lap belt" so the only one that is "safe" to use in the middle is the baby's which blocks my view. Any suggestions other than removing the 6 yr old from his car seat or moving him to the front...
A new car is out of the ?

What can I do next?

Is your 3 year old still small enough to use a 5pt harness booster? perhaps one like this that goes to 65 lbs: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0011URFRE/?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER Then you should be able to use the lap belt safely to hold him in the miggle and the baby can go behind the passenger, the 6 year old behind the driver. Just a suggestion is all- I don't know what you can or can't afford, but this seems like the least expensive, safe option. Hope that helps! ~J.

Your 3 year old actually be safer in a 5 pt harness anyway. He could then be in the middle and you should be able to see over him. The one the pp linked would work great.
The longer you can keep kids in a 5 pt harness the better.

I have 3 kids and I am familiar with the wall of carseats. We use a rear-facing 'bucket' carrier for our 7 m.o., a standard carseat for our 2yo, and a backless booster seat for our 4yo. The 4yo sits in the middle. Fortunately, our middle seat has a shoulder & lap belt. Is it possible to get a shoulder belt installed in your car?

Maybe you can get your car fitted with a camera which will allow you to see out the back. It might be pricey, but probably cheaper than getting a new car. I babysit a family with three boys, ages 4, 19 months, and 3 weeks. The parents went car shopping last week and told me there are some great deals on used Ford Expeditions, I guess lots of people are trading in their big SUVs for smaller cars.
