My son will be 5 next month and I want to get him involved in some type of team sport. He played t-ball last year but wants to try something different. I've have looked on the internet but wanted some other mom's opinions. We live in Carrollton and I work so it would have to be an evening activity.

What can I do next?

Carrollton has a great soccer program. Mt D. plays with them in the evening and they try and get you on a team near your area. I think the web site is CFBS.com, but if not just search Carrollton Farmers Branch soccer. I think the web-site says registration is over but I am sure you can still register if you want to.

Soccer Tots(they have a web site) has a soccer program that runs once a week and they have a program for teaching the basics to soccer through games. They have a 5/6 year old group. We attended on Saturdays but I know they have a group on Sundays and one or two days during the week at around 6:00. They meet at American Indoor on Hebron. We just stopped going as we are moving on to team sports. The Rosemeade Rec also offers a lot of activities such as karate, gymnastics, etc. for children in this age group.

D.,
You may want to visit the Prestonwood Baptist Church website. They offer a PSO sports program from soccer to baseball, karate, etc. I didn't have any trouble going through the City of Carrollton when my children were 5 and they are now 10. You can try a yahoo search for quickscores carrollton texas and you will find a list of the sports that are upcoming through the City of Carrollton. There is also Carrollton Pony league for baseball and Carrollton Little League as well. In the winter, First Baptist Church off of Josey, across the street from Newman Smith offers a wonderful basketball program. The season is almost over but the info is good for future use. Carrollton often teams up with Farmers Branch for soccer. I believe the website is cfsbsoccer.com. Again, I didn't have any trouble finding a sport for my children, from baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, etc for either of my kids in Carrollton. Also, most of the games are in the evening and / or Saturdays. Good Luck! C.

We moved from Carrollton back in July 2007. My son is 5 also, and Carrollton didnt seem to have much to offer in the way of sports for young children. Most of the stuff through the rec centers were daytime for people who didnt work. I work full time so that wasnt for me. We did however do soccer through Plano when my son was 4(the one Legacy/Hedgecoxe area) and my son loved it. I believe Lewisville/Coppell have alot of sport leagues too that you might want to check out.

I started to suggest PSO - Prestonwood's Sports program for children of all ages, then I noticed that a few other moms had the same idea. This post is just to confirm their suggestions that Prestonwood welcomes all children whether members of the church or not, to participate in their programs. My son has played "tackle" football there since he was 7 (he's 11 now) - although they offer flag football for the younger ones. He also played basketball and baseball. They have a huge soccer program as well. Can you tell we are happy with what they do at Prestonwood? :o) Good luck.

Hi DDB,

My name is Y. and I live in the Colony. We are currently registering for Spring Football. Your son could participate with evening practices with games on Saturday. If you are interested let me know and I would be glad to send you the registration form.
