I have a baby about ready to start crawling and my carpets need a good cleaning before he does! I am looking to purchase a good carpet cleaning machine instead of hiring somone to do it! I am looking for recommendations for a good machine that costs around a couple hundred dollars (or less) that will also clean sofas and also a good natural, non-toxic cleaning solution to use with it! Any ideas???

What can I do next?

I have a Bissell Pro Heat and LOVE it. We have 3 dogs and I use it regularly. I paid less that $300 at Bed Bath and Beyond.

I don't have upholstered furniture, mine is all leather, but the machine does have attachments for that. We use the attachments on the steps.

We like the Hoover Pet Solution from Home Depot, about $25 for the gallon.

I got my Hoover upright on CraigsList for like $100 but it was practically brand new. I use Shaklee's Basic H2 and Nature Bright when I clean my carpets and it works great!

Hoover Steam Vac. We are on our 3rd. Got it originally for our house when we just had a couple of dogs. Now we have 2 boys (and a dog!!) and it works great. It can do furniture and also has an attachment that can do hard floors. I don't like the hard floor attachment and don't use it but it is out there.

I own a Bissel ProHeat and do like it. I have also used the Hoover and I did like it better than the Bissell but I was able to get the Bissell for quite bait cheaper. I don't use any cleaners, except on stains when needed. Otherwise i use just the hot water and it does a great job cleaning. You can google the Internet for natural cleaners, usually a mix of white vinegar and baking soda.

when are baby started crawling we wanted to clean the carpets too (ours are 35 yrs old and I am not sure if the people who lived here before us ever cleaned it) we rented a carpet cleaner. you can get one at pamida or alco for $20 for an hour or $40 for a day, and they are the same cleaners professionals use. (you do have to purchase your own soultion which will run another $10)

Love, love, LOVE the Hoover steam vac. It has spinning brushes as opposed to a beater-bar and you can control the speed of them. It also has the upholstery attachments available ready for use without needing to make any adjustments. I have used every carpet scrubber available and recommend the Hoover over any of the others.
