Car Seats in Taxis - Lafayette,CO

So we are headed on a quick weekend trip to Las Vegas with some friends and we are bringing my 19 month old son. We bought him his own seat on the plane and are bringing his carseat to travel with (we've done the lap thing before when he was smaller, but now he's a big, active boy- no more squirmy kid for us!!) My question is this- if we don't rent a car, most of the transportation in Vegas is by that monorail thing or by Taxi- what are your thoughts about taking/using the carseat everywhere? I'm hesitant to travel by taxi without one, but hate the thought of lugging the carseat around once we reach our destination (of course, it's not one of the seats that fits conveniently into a stroller). What have you other moms done?

What can I do next?

I"m from NYC, and we never put the car seat in a taxi, we just put the kid in the middle with a seat belt and held our arms across him while we were in motion. Carrying around a car seat is just ridiculous - what are you going to do with it at your destination?

I had the same thought when we were in Vegas. I was nervouse to put my little on in just a seatbelt. But honestly, when you are driving down the strip, no one goes very fast, its constant stop and go traffic. So I think putting your little one in the middle seatbelt and just putting your arms around the front of him, its not as bad as it seems.
Enjoy your trip!

have you looked in to getting one of those little converter dealies so you can turn your car seat in to a stroller? I don't mean the car seat rack that holds an infant carrier... something like this:

http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId...

if the link doesn't work, its called the gogo kidz travelmate... kind of spendy, but handy if you do a lot of traveling. I think I found mine for a $20-25 bucks cheaper elsewhere on-line, but it is handy.

just my opinion, but I'd rather have my car-seat & stroller with me, esp in vegas...

by law, car seats are not required in taxis and to be quite honest, if you will be getting in and out of taxis all day and night sightseeing...what are you going to do carry the big car seat around town? I am from NYC and we never used car seats in taxis unless we were going to/from the airport or another very long ride. have fun !

I'm intruigued by Amy B's harness--sounds like it would be optimum! We took dd to So. Korea this year and they don't use car seats it freaked me out--but we survived. lol. I was thinking your traveling is mostly short distances isn't it? my biggest worry was dd thinking she didn't have to use a car seat after we got home. She's been okay a little fighting but not too much more than normal. I am going to see if I can't find that harness myself...sounds great--especially if you had extra kid sometime? keep it in the car--have fun in Vegas!!

We took our then 12 month old to Vegas. We had some taxi drivers refuse to take us w/o a car seat, & 1 get mad that we were taking so much time installing it. (The valet guy told him where to go, & sent him on his way.) Car seats are not required on buses - can you take those? To & from the airport may be sticky. Good luck!

Hi

Cosco makes a portable seatbelt harness for toddlers. you put it on the child and the car's seatbelt feeds through a loop on the back of the harness. It can be used on the plane as well andf is so much easier to carry while traveling. It is approved for both airplane and automobile.
