Car Seat Info - Need Larger Car Seat for 9 Month Old

I have a 9 month old that needs the larger car seat rear facing but I have a three year old in that car seat forward facing but we need two car seats for each car. I believe that my 3 year old can not go into a booster until 4 years old. So I just need a car seat for 6 months. Does anyone know any cheap ones or what all the car seat law requirements are?

What can I do next?

We just bought this one at Babies R Us for our 2.5 year old who weights 33 lbs....she can be in the harness until 40 lbs and then it is a booster until 100 lbs using the seat belt. It is a good price at 59.99.

You can get a convertible car seat that will work both rear and front facing. Many work up to 65 pounds now and are safer than a booster.

I personally really like my Britax....

The law is they can go into a booster seat at 40 lbs, but you really should keep the child in a 5 pt harness as long as possible for safety. I recently bought this seat for my husbands car for my 3 1/2 year old. It is great cause they can stay in a 5 pt harness up to 65 lbs and then it also converts into a backed booster seat (which is safer than a backless)

Only catch with this is that you have to have the higher seats in the back seat...the entire carseat needs to be supported by the seat of the car.
That way you could move your older child to this seat, and the younger baby could use his seat. And it wouldn't be a wasted investment as you will get a lot of use out of it.

If you go to Cook County Hospital you can get one for like $25 or something like that. They told us this in our child birth class at Rush. At that time we already had our car seats or we would have done this, at least for the second car. It is not based on income or anything you just go there and get one.
