I am researching infant carseat covers for winter. I originally had the JJ Cole cover, but it was like a sleeping bag type that your child was incased in. My daughter is a little heater, so she would be way too hot when the car is warm. I have looked at some of the less expensive ones and the do not seem that warm. Is anyone familiar with the Nuzzler ? http://www.babypolargear.com/infant_car_seat_cover.htm
I like that it has a zip up for when it's raining, and not just a hole. Any comments, suggestions? Thanks so much

So What Happened?

I went ahead and got the Nuzzler. Love it. Don't have to struggle to keep a blanket over the handle when it is raining and wind. BTW they have a similiar cover for older children in carseats so the blanket won't fall off. Overall I am very satisfied with the product and for me $40 was worth it to keep my baby warm and dry and I know I will get good use out of it. Thanks for all your responses.

I don't have experience with the nuzzler, but I just wanted to throw a question out there for you. How long do you plan on having your little girl outside when it's cold in the carseat? I are you just going to move her from the car to the indoors? If she's not going to be out that long, but you would just like protection from the wind and rain, then I think that would open a lot more possibilities. Also, I see she is 4 1/2 months old. How long do you think you will continue carrying her in the carrier. I would think she is probable starting to (or will start to) get pretty heavy to carry around in the car seat. Just somethings to think about before you spend some money.

Hi M.,
I had the Bundle Me - which I can't recall if was by JJ Cole. If so, I apologize for the redundancy. My son also was hot all the time - we never wore onesies under anything and he was born Nov. 20th. I used the Bundle me to keep wind and rain off as we walked into stores, etc. But I would flip it down or unzip it once inside. I will tell you the one thing I disliked about it, was that it would easily blow open if I wasn't holding it just right as we walked in somewhere. I even attached velcro circles, so that it would stay closed until we were inside. I never had it over him while in the car - he would have roasted. Again, I apologize if I just gave you the rundown on the one you already own! Good luck.

I don't know about the Nuzzler, but I used the lighter-weight JJ Cole as I think someone else mentioned. It is not as heavy as the 'winter' one but still protects them from the elements. I also used a blanket on top of it when it was really cold. I wouldn't recommend using something that covers their face. You can always throw a blanket over their head for a second as you're running into the store, but you don't want something that stays there. I think this, though, if you're worried about money you're just as fine using some fleece blankets (we love the Target ones) and throwing them on than spending the money on a cover. I got mine used for 10 bucks, so it was worth it, but I don't know that I would spend the money either.

I just got a cheap one at Babies R Us last year. It zips up but has an opening for their face. It has fleece lining, but it's not too much and the outside is a windbreaker material. If it got warm in the car or when we got indoors, we just pulled it off the bottom of the carrier and folded it over the top. I think I paid around $20 for it and if I remember right, it was the Koala baby brand.

What's wrong with good ol' fashioned blankets?

Another option would be too use blankets. I always used a smaller receiving type blanket around their legs and torso and then used a nice heavy blanket up over the handlebar forming a little tent. Whatever you plan to use please think about if you were stuck under it directly on your face for ten minutes. If the blanket is too close to their face, it can get hard to breathe.

I have attended SIDS and suffocation conferences and learned that a baby in KC actually died of suffocation because the baby was covered with one of those infant carrier covers. I know this was probably an extreme case but even just the time in and out of cars can be uncomfortable if you have heavy blanketing directly on your face. Try it yourself before you use it on your infant.

If you put the handlebar up in the carry position and use a blanket up over the top that will give her room for air. Please let me know if you have questions about what I mean.

Good Luck!
