I am needing to buy a extra car seat for my 6 1/2 month old. It will be used by my mom and husband rarely. What is a good, fairly cheap, seat? Greatest amount of sefety for the money?

What can I do next?

We have had good luck with this seat. It's the Cosco Scenera and it's sold at Target and Walmart for a very good price. We paid 49 last year. Happy Shopping! M.

Make sure you get one with a 5-point harness. There is one at Babies-r-us, I forget the brand, that is considerably less than Britax...although you can't beat the Britax weight limit for using when your kiddo gets older. Don't get Combi Avatar or Evenflo Portabout - warning on www.consumerreports.com

I hear good things about the Evenflo Triumph.

Have you tried looking at Consumer Reports? You may have to register-- pay something like $4.95 but can unregister yourself once you have the information you need. A good, cost-efficient car seat may be worth the registrations fee!
Good luck!

I like the Graco brands. Make sure you get one that has the adjustment in the front. It will be a strap to pull to make the harness straps tighter. My infant carrier tightens from the back so it can be kind of difficult. You can go to Kid to Kid or Once Upon A Child to find used ones at fairly good prices. Kid to Kid usually has the best selection. You can go to Target.com and look at reviews from other parents. Also a convertable car seat is a great investment since it will go from Infant to Booster. Hope this helps.

We did the same thing. I have the Britax Marathon in my car for everyday use but we got a less expensive (and smaller and lighter for air travel) car seat for my MIL's car. We got the evenflo titan deluxe ($99) at baby depot with one of their $10 off coupons from the paper. There is also the $59 titan. (?) I just thought based on my research at the time that Evenflo had been historically rated very well (this time last year when our babe was 6 mos old). Good luck!

You can get some version of the Graco Comfortsport at Target or Babies R Us. I think we paid $80 for the one at Target. Different stores will have the same seat with different fabrics/designs at different price points.
