My family is fairly new to the Shrewsbury area and I am looking for recommendations for a good, honest mechanic. We've got 2 cars that need new brakes and would love to find someone who won't take advantage of us. Tried the local Meineke only to have them suggest unnecessary work at high prices. Thanks for any suggestions!

What can I do next?

Hi A.

I recently took my car in to W & W Auto Body & Towing in Westboro. It is right off of RT 9 (east bound side). They were FANTASTIC! everyone was super nice and very informative. I went in by myself to drop off my car and was expecting to get the run-around from the guys in there.... which i find tends to happen at other places because mechanics tend to take advantage of woman thinking they don't know anything about cars, etc. The office was VERY clean and organized and like i said, all the people in there, (administration to mechanics), were so nice and honest. i felt my car was in good hands. I can't say enough good things about this place. Contact info: 27 Longmeadow Road, Westboro, MA ###-###-####. Best of luck =)

Hi,

Quality Brake and Muffler in Worcester is the absolute best place for brakes or exhaust work. They are in an out of the way spot but do the job cheaper than anyone else.

Desjardins on Harrison in Worcester is another choice for all other checkups, etc. Kenny and before him, his father, have been in business there for years. He won't recommend repairs unless you need them and will also give you an idea how long you might have for the next repair if their are issues. Honest as the day is long.

If you're willing to drive to Westboro, use Brian's Auto & Truck on East Main Street (Route 30) just east of the rotary (intersection of Route 135 and Route 30). He's great and we have used him for many years. ###-###-####. He shares space with State Street Auto which does tires, inspections and front end alignments. Dave Bigelow, he owner of State Street used to handle all the repairs and Brian was his chief mechanic, then Brian bought the repair side from Dave. So both have been Westboro fixtures for many years. He gets busy but he makes appointments and sticks to them. He often does little stuff for free on top of a primary job, and he is honest and thorough.

If you have to leave your car and don't have a ride home, there are many places nearby for lunch, breakfast, etc. The new Bay State Commons plaza is across the street with a supermarket, a Panera Bread, and so on. You can sit as long as you want at Panera with a good book. There are several places in the rotary too (Christina's Cafe and the South Street Diner), a short walk. If they aren't full, they won't rush you out.
