Happy Thursday everyone ! So glad tomorrow is Friday ! We are looking for new car insurance and I am wondering who you use. Are the rates good, any problems filing claims, customer service good, etc. I know rates especially wil vary around the country but are they good where you are at compared with other insurances there. Also - do you bundle your homeowners with auto or not ? I am looking at Progressive, Geico, or Esurance but I am open to any of them. Thanks for your information !l

Progressive is the worst for claims, so is usaa. Best for claims I've found are Amica, State Farm, and pemco.

I have State Farm, mainly because my husband works for them, although we do not get any discounts. GEICO and Progressive maybe cheaper, but really compare the coverage line for line to make sure you are getting everything that you would with a State Farm or Allstate. Also, I worked for a personal injury attorney for over a year and found the GEICO and Progressive were difficult to work with when it came time to file a claim. USAA, Allstate and State Farm were easy to work with on the claim front in my experience.

We also bundle all of our insurance as you can get extra discounts for doing so. What I do like about State Farm and I believe AllState is the same, is that you can do all of your insurance in one location, home, auto, life, etc.

I would definitely look at bundling for the best rate. This will also enable you to have an umbrella policy if you choose. I have only had experience with Allstate and State Farm. Allstate has good auto but would not go with them for homeowners. Neighbor had a bad experience where everyone around them got covered except them. Because of that we switched to State Farm and love it so far. I believe in insurance you get what you pay for and you usually don't really understand what you get until you need to use it!

I have 21st Century and I really like them. Rates are great. I've never had to file a claim, so can't say anything in that regard. They are a Farmers Company and I have my homeowners through Farmers so I do get a discount, but I'm not really sure how much that is. I also have Low Jack on my car so my rates are a bit lower because of that as well.

Happy shopping!

I have Metropolitan for home and work because I get a work discount. Even with the work discount it's expensive but we've never had any issues with them. My husband works in the collision repair industry and confirms that Met is one of the better companies out there. The other company that has a great reputation is Amica.

I would avoid Geico and Progressive based on issues that friends and family have had with claims for those companies. For example, my brother's policy with Progressive was not set up with waiver of deductible, which is something that's a default option with Met (I recall our agent explaining it and asking us if we wanted to opt out). It wasn't even offered to my brother and he had no idea what it was. Well his parked car was hit by a Harley and totalled. The Harley owner only had $5K in liability damage (another insane thing that my state allows - motorcyclists only have to carry $5K in insurance) so the rest of the value of my brother's car had to paid by his insurance company, so his $1,000 deductible kicked in. Through no fault of his own he needed to fork over $1K and then go through the hassle of replacing his car. Progressive wouldn't cover the deductible and take the other party to court for being underinsured, so my brother has to pursue that on his own. A better company would have swallwed the deductible and negotiated reimbursement from the other driver. He had Geico in the past and his rate went up every 6 months. I don't think Commerce is in your area but if it is, avoid them too.

I think your best bet is to go with a local independent broker and see what they can offer you. Avoid the national cut-rate companies.

We are also shopping for car insurance, and live in Mansfield. :)

We have Allstate, and have used them for 25 years without ever making a claim. We have our auto and homeowner's insurance with them. This year our auto insurance went up over 20%. We were told it was because my car is now just over 3 years old, so we no longer get the new car discount, and because of an increase in accidents in our area. Anyway, we are not happy.

We've checked with Standard Insurance, and they are really, really cheap, but the price will go sky high - much, much higher than Allstate will - when our son starts driving (he's 15 now). That is a concern for us. If it's not for you, you might want to check Standard.

I checked with State Farm last year just to compare, and it was very similar to Allstate. My husband is checking with Progressive. We have to make a decision soon because they automatically withdraw our 6 month premium from our checking account soon.

I'm also in the process of shopping for new healthcare because I'm a teacher, and our insurance is going up $2000 next year (co-pays and deductibles are going up, too). Open-enrollment is coming up next month, so if anyone has any advice, I'm all ears. Thanks!

We have Progressive, and I think their rates and service are great. We switched from State Farm, with the exact same coverage and saved about $1000 a year. We do bundle car, motorcycle and homeowners insurance.

I was unfortunately in an accident (which was awful for my car, but not so bad for me). The accident was on a Thurs, I called them and they scheduled an appointment for me to drop off my car at one of their choice auto shops on Friday. You can use your own preferred shop if you want, but if you choose one of theirs they handle all the appointments and claims. I didn't have to do any paperwork.

I like their website as well. I hate making phone calls, and I find their site to be great because I can do basically anything on there. State Farm I had to call for EVERYTHING. Ick.

We had GEICO for our car insurance for years but due to a claim needing to filed and almost not covered(we had/have full coverage)we decided to switch. We have now had Progressive for auto insurance for many years and have never at all had an issue. In fact, our rates have gone down as time has progressed. We have full coverage for our auto insurance and are very happy with the coverage and rate. Not to mention, once when our keys were stolen(we were staying in a a hotel on vacation)and we reported it to our insurance we only had to pay part of what it would've originally cost us to replace our car key.

Progressive has been a good insurance company to us and I would recommend them for auto insurance.

I don't know if they sell it where you live, but we have Mercury Insurance. They've been great. Never a problem.

We have Allstate. Our agent is Terry Leflar. We have homeowners and auto, and in 2011 filed a hail damage claim on the house and then my wife's car was totaled by a rear-ender. Allstate handled both claims like a champ and paid everything. They are awesome.

We have GEICO. I used to have Nationwide, but they couldn't give us a similar rate when DH and I married. We have overall been happy with them. We have 4 vehicles as a household, plus the house. They just repaired our van from when our teenager rear-ended someone and although DH is annoyed (he's a project manager but he stinks at dealing with the real world sometimes) I have not felt that they let us down. When I had Nationwide, I had bare bones insurance and I think that was more of a problem than the company itself. We have full coverage on our cars now. Even the old ones.

Fred Loya was the least expensive for us, but you have to jump through hoops to get insured. Farmer's lured me back with a quote for less, but of course they went back up in 6 months (Loya hardly EVER raised their rates)

Our insurance is through Allied (likely regional) and is under the Nationwide parent company. We have full-coverage auto insurance and replacement value home insurance through them.

We seem to pay a lot less than others have mentioned in this thread. We pay under $700 per year for both insurances!

We don't have ANY claims though. No home damage, no car accidents, not even a speeding ticket.

i was with farmers for like 12 years... i called and did quotes with Geico, Esurance, All State, Progressive, State Farm and I can remember another and well i went with AAA!! all the other were 5-10 more or less than farmers so wasnt going to switch for that. but with AAA I save $920 a year!!! And you cant beat their roadside assistance! My house insurance is nothing too and their life insurance is great as well. I got almost a million dollar policy for $75 a month

We've been customers of Farmers for many years.

Yes, we bundle house insurance, jewelry rider, umbrella and car insurance for the best deal.

We've never had any claims and for what we insure, the pricing is not too bad. Our car insurance doubled 2 yrs ago because we added our daughter (now 18) and a new car.

We do not participate in the payment plans offered. We take advantage of the cash price discount we get for paying in full. I save over $300 on House insurance just by paying in full ($2500/yr) and I save over $200 on car insurace just be paying in full ($2000 each 6 months). We carry a $2000 deductible on cars and $2000 deductible on house. We would never file a claim unless it is absolutely unavoidable.

Farm Bureau, I have been with them for 34 years. One house fire, water damage to the house, hail damage on house and cars, two wrecks and still have GREAT rates and good customer service.
