Can't Remember Going to the Hospital Check List

Hello,
Kind of a silly question...I can't remember what all to bring to the hospital when I deliver my second child.

So far I have for the baby:
infant shirts
infant socks
outfit for first photo
receiving blanket

For me:
change of cloths...aka sleepwear and sweats to leave in.
socks for me
my bathroom travel bag
boppy pillow
breastpump
journal for tracking breastfeeding

I feel like I'm forgetting somethings.

Any suggestions..my mind is blank.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I wanted to thank you all for your advice. I delivered my second daughter, Cordelia, October 18, 2006. Your advice came just in time. There were several things you all reminded me take. Again thanks to all. I just love this site...you all are great.

Slippers for you, the carseat in the car and ready to go.
That is all I can think of I think you covered most of it.
Good Luck.

I know this is something I wish I would have brought with me when I had my son. My pillow! I had a hard time sleeping on the hospital pillows since they're so flat, but if you're good w/ that then I think everything else is covered. If I think of anything anyone missed, I'll let you know though. Good luck, congradulations and I hope you have a short easy labor!

Congrats D. :)

I take my slippers everywhere - so don't forget those - and if you don't have any - treat yourself to them before the baby gets here :) Sounds like the other ladies have taken care of the rest of the items ;)

My nly advice is calm down, seems like you have a good bit of what you need. I took everything they told me to for the first, and didn't use half of it. The second one I took a change of clothes, blanket, warm coat or bundle wrap, change of clothes for me, and toilettries. The hospital supplies you with diapers there, and bottles or even breats pump if there that long. If delivering normally you'll be home in like 12 hours now. I had 2 c-sections and was there 4 days each time, and still had a lot supplied for me. Good luck, and congrats!!!

Be sure to add an outfit to bring the baby home in and a heavier blanket. Oh and of course the carseat. Believe it or we forgot that because we were so excited and afraid at the same time. Oh and may have just been me being anal, I also took my own baby bath, and lotion and gave him his first bath. I don't think that they do such a great job. Good Luck:)

Hello Congrates:))
Well in case you're one of those compulsive organized people(not so bad i can be lol:)
here is a link to a checklist to print

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC06089261103...

If not here are the must haves:
for yourself-
Toiletries
robe & socks or slippers (hosp floors are REALLY cold)
clothes to come home (pack maternity or sweats trust me lol)
a camera (don't forget this we did!)

baby-
ONE outfit (hosp. regulations will not allow you to put anything other than thier garmets on baby while there)
car seat (if winter get cover or a blanket)

Things you don't need-
your purse or wallet (your husband will have his just take you id)

breast pump- as others said they will give you one

boppy pillow- altho nice it is just one more thing to lug around. You'll already have 500 plants, ballons ect....

The journal- they will also give you sheets at the hosp to keep track(which you can later transfer to your own journal if needed)

another thing to consider a friend told me to do this. I bought and wrapped cute dollar store gifts to give to the nurses who took care of me after wards. I spent like 10$ total on 4 gifts. Trust me this helps get whatever you might need!!(midnight sancks, extra pillows, pads ect..) LOL
Good luck!!!!

PS You and your husband should not have to call anyone there will be to much going on. Print up a list an designate someone to do this important job like your sister or granny:)))

I would bring your own pads what they have works but they feel like a daiper. I brought mine just a overnight one instead of my regular ones. Your own pillow. Chapstick, lotion for when you are in labor your husband can rub your lower back with it to help ease pain. extra socks, I was cold but during and after labor I had to change mine a couple times. I wouldn't take your pump you won't need it. A magazine, cards, book(baby book) something for you to do before labor and after while the baby is sleeping. Labor plan if you have one. CAMERA don't forget that. I think those were the things I used. Of course clothes for you and the baby for your stay before and after labor. One thing you might do is go online and search for things to take to the hospital for giving birth and you can find lots of lists and that way you can get a idea. Good luck and I hope you have a short and not very painful(yea right labor not be painfull) labor let us know when the little one is here.

Good luck on the big day. I'm also pregnat, third child and my due date is December 21. You may want to add on your list for the baby: some diapers, a blanket or outerwear, depending on the weather and of course don't forget the car seat. For you: nursing pads, underwear, bras or nursing bras, a robe, comfortable slippers, camera, and your insurance information. You should be good to go. Good luck.

Don't forget maxipads or else you'll end up using the giant hospital supplied ones.
You might also wan't to remember a couple of small tote bags for any gifts/floral arrangements you might get at the hospital.
And don't forget your own camera, Mom. I'm sure you'd love a pic of the doc with the baby.

Good Luck~

Here's a few things I've come up with:

Camera-charged and ready to go, batteries and film if needed
Video camera-charged, if you have one
Pacifier- if going to use one
Cell phone and charger
Address book/list of phone numbers of people you need to notify
Mittens for baby to prevent him/her from scratching self
Baby gown with open bottom to make diaper changes easier
Snacks/drinks for you and dad
Anything that will make labor more comfortable for you- MP3 player or CD player and CD's, back massager, pillow from home, robe if you are going to wander the halls,
Comfortable set of clothes for hubby, toiletries for him and any meds he normally takes-tums, tylenol, prescriptions
Car seat/carrier- base set up in car and ready to go
Something to keep yourself and hubby occupied- magazines, crossword puzzle, book, or a few thank you notes

That's what I've come up with so far, I'll post more if I think of anything. Congratulations!

I thought of a few more things- before I delivered we went to a birth class, and they gave us a book with breathing techniques and other info for labor. You may want to bring something like that along to help your husband and give you ideas to try if you have a longer labor. You may also want to bring a calling card in case you have to make long distance calls and aren't able to use your cell phone. I think you have to list your social security numbers on the info. for the birth certificate, so make sure you write them down if you don't already know them.

As a doula I suggest parents should bring:
chapstick for labor
Your favorite non-medicine "comfort" that you use when you have bad PMS (helpful in labor).
A phone list of who you want to call with the good news.
A comfy gown (that is breastfeeding friendly) or a robe.
Any music/CDs you think will pump you up and give you energy, as well as the relaxing stuff.

For baby:
I wouldn't worry about packing the pump, they have those.
Just ask to see the Lactation Consultant each day that you are there. Even if things are going well. :)
Just bring an outfit for the first picture and taking them home. :)
And of course, as someone else said, the car seat.

And leave all the jewlery and valuables at home.

don't worry...I have 4 kids and I could never remember what to bring! everyone has covered it pretty much. For me, my lips always get dry so I bring vaseline lip therapy (or chapstick etc...whatever you use!)
magazines, or books maybe. I wasn't up for reading during labor...but there were times late at night that the baby was sleeping...i wasn't and there was nothing on tv, so i read.
Good Luck to you and a safe and quick delivery!

My husband and I always take our baby book so we can have the nurses put your childs footprints in it when they do the birth certificate. You also might not want to take your breastpump usually they advise you not to pump for a week or two because the first milk is the best for the baby and you don't want to take that away. Plus it takes up room. You may also want to take Lanolin (heaven for a brestfeeding mom!) and also nursing pads. It's so hard to remember everything I know and I am getting ready to do it for the 3rd time!! Best of luck!
