Hi there- I remarreid 2 yrs ago- my husband is not a real sexual person, but I have been trying for 2 yrs to get pregnant- I am 34 and I have a almost 11 yr old.
My husbnad is 40 and he went and his stuffed checked and it is good- I have tried the ovualtion tests and they never show that I am ovulating and I have tried to just do it on and around the 14 days- People say dont try but if I am not sexually active I cant get pregnant so if I have to choose when I have it I might as well try on or around the days I am supposed to have it- I have not tried to get myself checked because it cost an arm and a leg to see if you have any eggs. And the pill to help you is aroound 300 dollars a month- any SUGGESTIONS?
thanks in advance.

Maybe you're trying to hard. I know for me, that the 14 day thing didn't work. I get pregnant at a different cycle. Practice makes perfect. If you're not very sexual then it will take you longer to get pregnant. Good luck!

Hi B.,

I don't know if the ovulation tests include using a basal thermometer, but if they don't, I would highly recommend you try using one. They are just a few dollars, and you can get them from the pharmacist. They come with instructions. I conceived 4 kids in 5 years using one. Good luck, and let me know if you have any more questions. I am an RN too, and would love to help you. ~ A. Marie

Most women's cycle goes a period every 28 days and ovalation 14 days after the start of period. This is how some people do what is called the Rhythm Method to prevent pregnancy. Yeah I know its not what you are trying to do, but bear with me!! lol Now just because this is the average, doesnt make it how every woman ovalates. I, for the best example, ovalate whenever my body decides it wants too. lol I can almost tell you the day my #3 was born because we hadnt had any sex in a while and when we did, I thought to myself, well there is no way we could possibly get pregnant because my period was due the very next week. My due date was off by 1 weeks and 2 days of the way a due date is measure, which is 40 weeks after the start of your last period. Why should I know all these numbers? Well like you, I tried to get pregnant after my son was 1 yrs old. We tried for years to get pregnant, my son was turned 5 just after the baby was born. I discovered that I have PCOS (polycystic ovary symdrome) which causes infertility and I was very upset when I was told I would never have another baby without medical help. But I have 2 daughters, as well as my son, plus I am pregnant again, and the due date again is not where it should be, but off by 2 weeks. They dont exactly know a due date with this one, I cant tell you when it could have been, not because we had a ton of sex, but because I wasnt really paying attention as closely. lol So my advice to you is to just relax, and it WILL come quicker. When I look back at the time we tried so hard and it took 4 yrs for it to happen, I realized we were trying too hard. It really stressed me out and other problems popped up too. If it is meant to happen it will, as long as you believe it can and you relax.
If you think it might be a medical problem, there are sites that can clue in you, like WebMD.com. This site has a place that will ask you a bunch of questions on symtoms or what not and gives suggestions to ask your doctor about. Its not how I found out about my PCOS, I actually discovered it by reading Woman's World Magazine, but it has helped me identify things for my family. Good Luck and remember: Just lay back and relax!! ;)

This may sound weird but I can actually tell when I am ovulating by the way my body feels! I notice a change in vaginal discharge, it will be clear but kind of sticky, and I get very horny! My hubby and I use the Rhythm method of birth control and so far it has worked great. We are now thinking about getting pregnant again, and I hope we have good results. Sometimes, if you worry too much it causes adverse effects and you may not get pregnant for sometime, RELAX! Also, you can use the free ovulation predictors on the internet, you just need to track your periods and enter the right info. I do this once in a while and it tells you your most fertile days (which there are only about 4 of a month!) and I have found that on the days when I really want sex those are the days that I am actually ovulating! So, listen to what your body is telling you, you may just be worrying too much and need to have sex more for fun rather than getting pregnant. I am also 34 and even though the chances for pregnancy are only about 25 percent in a month I am going to see what happens. There really isn't too much you can do about it if you don't happen to get pregnant, but being upset and worried isn't going to help much! Good luck to you, I bet if you take it easy and relax you will back in this group telling us you are expecting really soon!

I have heard that you can get pregnant right after your period, and right before. I was one that just looked at him and got pregnant, well thats how it seemed to me. My second one was six months old when I found out I was pregnant with my third, which made our fifth all together. I have also heard about taking your temperature in the morning to tell if you are ovulating. They say in the morning is a good time to try.
Here is an idea, you and your husband go away for the weekend. Get a hotel room and have some champain, or something nice and relaxing. I recommend a room with a hot tub, nice..... this will be fun for both of you and you will have time to practice, and if it doesn't work then you can say you had a good weekend together.
also they say after having intercourse, sit there for a while before using the restroom. some people recommend tilting your hips in the air.
Good luck to you, they say that women in their 30's have a higher chance of having twins. I don't know how true this is, but my sister was 36 and had twins

Oh so many opinions. I figure I will give you mine. I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)in my early 20's. If you are not familiar with it, it is one of the leading causes of infertility. That being said: I tried a Natural Family Planning approach. (I think it's kind of a Catholic thing...I'm not Catholic.) But it was a miracle. I used the method for 5 months and then yahoo! I was pregnant. The thing I like about the method is that it really makes you aware of your body. If you truly are NOT ovulating that's a problem. Right!? I have a book you may have if you would like. I know those that say "don't stress", "don't worry it will happen" are meaning well. But I say it is stressful and no one want's to hear that kind of stuff. One day I had started my period (when we were trying) and went to a birthday party for my friend's little girl. Two ladies were pregnant and one had just found out she was pregnant. I went home and cried. I'm not very well versed on all of the natural stuff but I did take vitamin B6 to increase my mucus. It was nifty figuring out how my body worked. And I didn't ovulate on the typical day. I think it was like day 19 or something. Long story short, I had 3 girls in 3 years. After taking 5 months the first time, it was the first try the second time and 1 or 2 months the third. I also did some other things like lie on my back after intercourse w/my legs elevated on a pillow for a bit. There are tricks too for determining if you are looking at mucus or post-coital fluid. I would be happy to talk w/you personally if you would like. I pray that your dream comes true.

There are ovulation tests that you can do that initial cost is $30 I believe and it uses your saliva so you can reuse it forever. I found them at Walgreens!
My other recommendation is to try a chiropractor. Its proven that they can help with fertility. If your spine is out of place it can be pushing or pinching a nerve leading to your reproductive organs. Same thing for the man. It can pinch a nerve and the man can be tested sterile but after chiropractic treatments it releases the pressure on the pinched nerve and can help with ferility issues.

Traditional medicine is very expensive and their only solutions are pharmaceutical drugs. There are so many relatively unknown options out there that actually work better. I would encourage you to look into non-traditional medicine :)

Learn Naprotechnology. It's a form of natural family planning, but it helps to see how your hormones are interacting. It also helps to identify when you are ovulating or if you are. We used it to concieve. I don't ovulate on or around the 14th day. The quick way to see when you are ovulating is to whip front area before you use the restroom and after especially after you have a BM. When you are close to ovulating there will be mucus. If the mucus is clear and streached over an inch you are ovulating. Good luck. Some allergy medication will dry up that mucus and not make it favorable for conception. Foods will have an affect also. Good luck.

I'd say you need to find out if and when you are ovulating. you could try the ovulation tests all month to see if you are AT ALL.
might be expensive but not as expensive as some fertility tests. not everyone ovulates around 14 days. my sister got pregnant using the mucus and temp method mentioned.
I have plenty of friends who tried at first the ovulation kit method , like you didn't see any ovulation. once with a fertility dr found out they weren't ovulating! so fertlity drugs was their only option.
do you not have insurance at all? some fertility testing can be coded as medically necessary. has it been documented with your dr that you have been trying? if you havne't already i would talk to your obgyn. if they are any good they will have some suggestions prior to all out fertility testing. sometimes also there are plans that can help financially. or the option of making payments on y our medical bills with the company is all you can do. good luck.
with me,, after having a few miscarriages they did testing to find out why. which the tests were covered. and then the following fertility drugs were covered since it was discovered i had a luteal phase defect(where you don't produced enough progesterone and the lining of the uterus doesn't get thick enough for an egg to implant) so the progesterone pills/sugpposetories and finally oil shots were covered as well. 6 miscarriages later and a change in husbands..lol. i have two wonderful little ones.. with only progesterone shots, no fertility drugs.

Good luck.:-))

Check out the book Taking Charge of my Fertility by Tonni Weschler, and the website www.ovusoft.com. It deals with knowing and recognozing your body signals, cervical fluid and basal body temp (temp upon first waking). I used this method (along with Clomid to make my body ovulate, which I didn't know wasn't happening before I started temping) to concieve both my children. The website is wonderful and the book is so easy to read.

I have two older boys almost 8 and 6. They are eighteen months apart. When it came to actually planning my third (I did not plan the first two.) It took three years! (I was know as Fertile Mrytle!) Now that we want a fourth I am running into problems again. I took a test and it said positive, two weeks later I bled slightly and decided to see a doctor. Even though I had no period for two months I still was not pregnant. They figured that I was not ovulating and started me on birth control for a few months. Once I had my period three times on birth control, I went back off and have been ovulating ever since. I know that birth control is going against what you are doing but if you are not ovulating you might as well spend three months or even one on birth control to jump start your body than spend months of trying without any luck. I actually found out that my son's teacher had the same problem and after getting back off the birth control she got pregnant immediately. You should never stop birth control in the middle, always finish the cycle. Also, I found out I was pregnant with my third when I finally said oh well and left it up to God. I even started going through baby clothes and getting rid of some. There is only a few days opening every month to conceive so it's a miracle when it does finally happen! I get a lot of help off this site... http://www.pregnancy.org/

Hi B. - I had the same problems getting pregnant and with the ovulation tests. My last two babies were conceived only because of using the Clearplan Easy Ovulation Monitor. I know #3 was a "ok, today's the day!" planning method. I bought mine off of ebay and sold it afterwards too. New they're like $200, but you can get them cheaper online. It's fantastic for people like me who didn't ovulate on what was considered "normal." I would NEVER have gotten pregnant on days 14 or 15. You might check ebay or walgreens (for a new one). Good Luck! (By the way, my boys are 12, 5, and 2...)

Hubby and I tried to conceive for awhile and had proven problems on both sides. I wasn't ovulating, and he had bad swimmers! HOWEVER there are less expensive options for the female that you SHOULD try. It sounds like you may not be ovulating (very common). If you are not already, start NOW doing the following:
Check your Basal Body Temperature each morning and chart it.
Start keeping track of your sex schedule.
Start keeping track of your period (start date/stop dates/any spotting/etc).

In my case, just a check to the OB/Gyn with all my tracked data gave her all she needed to write me a prescription for Clomid. It is a fertility drug that will help you to ovulate. They started me on a low dose and I had very little side effects. Very mild, very inexpensive, and worked like a charm. My doc told me that if that didn't work after 6 months, THEN we could go to the more expensive testing, but we didn't need it. After 2 cycles, we are now Pregnant!

Hope that helps - GOOD LUCK.

PS - I cycled (even on the CLomid) at 45 days (not 28) and ovulated on day 20 or 21. Not everyone is on the 28 or 30 day clock.

Ok,
I read a ton of these responses and decided I had to chime in. I think there is some great advice here. But I also know that every womans body is different and I am here to tell you that 1 time is all it takes. My oldest shouldn't be here by all the laws that govern these things. We literally didn't use protection one time and that was the day after my period stopped. Surprise!!! I would suggest if the middle of the month isn't working for you - try a different time. :)

I also recommend naprotechnology. I went to a doctor trained in this method and did a follicular study. I ovulated on day 26 of my cycle. He's 6 months old and a beautiful baby!

I'm an RN and have taught natural family planning for 6 years and have used it for 13 years to concieve all 4 of my children.

Good luck and God Bless

B.,
If you are stressed about it, it can throw your hormones all out of wack, and make your ovulation times all crazy...it may be wise to get some balance there. I don't know too much about the details, but I have friends who couldn't get pregant and used Prolief from Arbonne, a natural, progesterone cream, I use it for getting rid of my migraines (that come when I am hormonal:) And it is awesome. If you'd like more info, I can send you some, it is recommended by doctors, and safe to use, and you can keep your arm and leg. :)
Blessings,

I think you need to go to a fertility doctor. If you have never been able to chart yourself ovulating maybe your system is out of whack or maybe you just don't ovulate on a schedule or maybe even at all anymore. Who is to say. Regardless i'm sure you can find a fertility doctor who can give you good suggestion and guidelines to follow that will suits your budget. You might need clomid till you get pregnant. Might need a better monitor. Who's to say. But go and see a specialist.
