So i have been having a cold since Friday of runny nose and when it would drain it would irritate my throat alittle. So i called my nurse since im 14weeks pregnant to see what i can take and she told me zyrtec and claritin and the zyrtec does not work that great so i pretty much been using nothing and let it pass. So how long does a cold usually last? im going on day 6 with this runny nose. Also is the canker sore from my cold maybe? thanks

What can I do next?

I get canker sores in my mouth occasionally when I get sick. Immune system gets out of whack and that's where I'm affected. I use Kankaide, it's a topical med that you apply right on the canker sore and it numbs it and puts a protective coating on it. That post nasal drip can be a real pain. I would try a humidifier at night and let the cold run its course. Hopefully it's not allergies. If it is allergies you may try the claritin since it has a different active ingredient than zyrtec and you may have better results.

Canker sores are usually an infection of some sort that got in through a small abrasion in the tissue in your mouth (like accidentally biting your cheek, for example), rarely associated with being sick although, your immune system can be less able of fighting off such infections when you are sick.

I usually flush with salt water twice a day, will help it clear up faster. Also my gramma used to make me put a tea bag on my canker sores. She said the tea would 'draw out' the infection. I'm not sure how true that is, but I passed that wisdom on to my little girl, who swears by it when she gets a canker sore. haha!

I have THE BEST thing for canker sores!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I get them when I eat too much acidic foods or when my body is getting run down.. they are SO painful..... Go to Walgreens, Vitamin Shoppe or CVS and get " Canker Covers"... They are THE BEST!!!!!!!! At night before bed, you dry the canker sore and put this little patch on it... (it looks like a tiny pill)... It sticks to your canker sore and lets out this medicine into it)...It stays on for about 10-12 hours... BEST RELIEF for a canker sore.. BELIEVE ME, I've tried everything and this works BY FAR the best!!!
