Can You Do Root Canal on a 9 Year Old?

Yes a root canal can be done on baby teeth and in young children. They are called baby root canals or a Pulpotomy and aren't the same as an adult root canal. It's actually better to try and save the tooth this way then have it removed.
You should see a pediatric dentist and they will explain it and take care of it.
If her mouth is swollen it means there is infection so she needs to be on antibiotics asap. An infected tooth is nothing to mess around with or let go!

I'm confused. You took her to more than one place. What kind of place? If they were pediatric dentists, they have told you what you need to do. Why are you asking us? We cannot tell you what to do. If you want mommy advice, you need to tell us what the dentist told you and say what your choices are.

Seeing as I'm not a dental professional, I could not do a root canal on anyone.
But a pediatric endodontist could for your 9 yr old.
When I needed a root canal, first thing they did was to get me on an antibiotic to get the infection under control, and take Tylenol and Advil to help the pain.

What have you been told? You said you took her to more than one place. I would think you are saying you took her to more than one dentist. What did the dentist say? Did they say she needs a root canal and then refuse to do that for her? Or did they say it wasn't a root canal that she needs? Perhaps they recommended another treatment instead?

If it were me, I'd go the pediatrician to treat the infection and go to the dentist to have the root canal - if that's what they are recommending.

You aren't giving enough information. They can't do a root canal while there's infection. They have to give antibiotics before they can do a root canal.

You do what the dentist recommends. If you've already gotten more than one opinion what is the problem?

If more than one dentist has said it's needed, then you get it done. But also teach her how important it is to brush at least 2x per day and floss and make sure she does it correctly. Then she won't need major dental work done. Good luck.

I don't think I understand what you're asking. It sounds like she needs a course of antibiotics first, then a root canal or extraction. You're hesitating because why? My kid had a root canal at age 4 after a mouth injury. It's seriously not a big deal. It bothered him less than getting a basic filling did.

Are you saying that the 2 dentists or dental specialists recommended it but you disagree? Or are you saying that you feel it should be done but the two places you went didn't concur?

But I wouldn't leave a child with a swollen mouth and not get some sort of treatment - maybe there's an infection in there that needs to be gotten under control first, which would make sense. But again, we can't guess from the small amount of info here, and we're not dentists anyway. If you can add more details, we can try to give you more support.
