Can Anyone Recommend a Good, Reasonably Priced Bicycle Trailer?

My son is 5, so not able to readily keep up to my 11 year old, and I when we go for a long distance ride. My daughter is 22months. I'd love to find a trailer to accommodate both of them. There are so many options, and so many reviews to go through. I was hoping for some suggestions on where to begin. Thank-you.

What can I do next?

We recently bought the InStep Quick 'n EZ trailer from Target.com. I had been looking all over Craigslist and yard sales but they get snatched up so quickly and I didn't want to spend the whole summer trying to find one. This one was inexpensive compared to most other new ones- $100 on sale and free shipping. It was definitely easy to assemble and easy to attach to the bike. The only complaint I have about it is that it's a little snug for two kids (mine are almost 1 and 4) but they don't seem to mind so I guess I don't either. I'm happy with it so far.

I LOVE my Chariot. It is a 2 seater with 5 pt. harnesses, but can also be used for a single child. It has a space behind the seat for diaper bag/ picnic/ groceries. It has a wheel for the front that can turn it into a stroller for when you get where you are going. I just love it! It is a lot sturdier than a lot of others I looked at!

We just bought a Croozer 535 this year and I absolutely LOVE it! It comes with the stroller and jogging attachments as well, and if I remember correctly, it is made by the same company that makes the Cougar (Chariot). You can change from trailer to jogger to stroller without the use of tools once it is assembled, and it does fold for storage. It has a built in bug shield and rain cover, plenty of room in the back to bring a diaper bag and picnic basket, and is really spacious for the kids. It is more expensive than the In-Step and Schwinn trailers, but from all of the research I have done, it is also a lot safer. The tension of the seats can be adjusted for your children's comfort as well. My daughter fell asleep in it the first trip we took - despite taking a really bumpy route! For me, the price was worth it - my daughters safety means more to me than any amount of money!

Good luck!

We spent about $100 on one at Wal-mart and it was broken when we got it out of the box. Went to Target and got one for $90 and its been great. All the ones we saw for sale accommodate 1 or 2 (the belts switch around) so you shouldn't have a problem finding a good one. Ours isn't really fancy, but has space in the back to store stuff and a cover to keep the rain/flies out.

Instead of a bicycle trailer that gets real heavy to pull, how about a bike seat for the 22 month old (either in the front or behind you) and a tagalong (a half kids bike) that attaches to yours. We love love love our tagalong and it kept the kids with us!

Chariot are the best, however they cost an arm and a leg. Burley are the next best, they aren't as roomy as the chariot, but they get the job done. You can buy an in step or little tykes for cheaper, but they are even smaller and your kids will be cramped. As long as your kids don't mind being close you should be fine with them. I personally would do a cheaper one and have the kids closer because I'm guessing next summer your 5 year old will be riding his bike with you and only your younger one will be in the trailer. You can find them at walmart or target for $90, and that is with a stroller attachment include, which with other brands you have to buy separate!

Chariot is the absolute best bike trailer/stroller (it can be used as both). They're a little pricey new, but I've seen many of them, in good condition, on Craigslist. They offer singles and doubles, as well as varying levels of bells and whistles. We tried a number of different options but since we've had our Chariots (we started with a single and traded up to a double when our second child was born) we've been extremely happy and able to take the kids anywhere!
