MY daughter is now 28 months old and in a month i would really like to start potty training her. We have the generic potty chair from walmart but she doesnt like it. Should we pick up a dif potty chair and if so what is a good kind to buy? I heard the flushing one (i think its called royal potty) is good but distracts them with all that flushing noise and etc. Should we try buying the dora (she LOVES dora) potty seat for the big toilet? and what steps did everyone use to start the process? I cant even get catie to sit on the potty chair....

What can I do next?

This is the one that worked well for us. we have 4 children. my 2 year old trained on this one...she still asks to use it eventhough she has graduated to the "big potty"!

it has a book to help introduce the skill as well as a video. The potty itself is perfect for squatting.

good luck!

I have four children and they tried a lot of potty chairs! The BEST one is the Once Upon a Potty potty. It's great for both girls and boys. I think I bought it at Babies R Us - but that was nearly 5 years ago, now. I know Alona Frankel has a website and you might want to just do a web search to see if you can find it anywhere.

I did both. I bought the royal throne potty chair that makes music when they pee, its worked out good.
I also bought the potty seat for the toilet, and a stair stepper. Eventually they will want to transfer to the big potty.
Good Luck :)

I have a son who has been potty trained for about 6 months now. My advice is to not get any that could cause even a little bit of distraction. If you buy one for the big toilet, make sure you have a step stool for her to use. I put my son in underwear and let him pee his pants so that he knew what it felt like. Eventually your daughters will do it more on their own. Just keep reminding them that if they want to be big girls, they need to start using the toilet. I hope some of this helps.

The Baby Bjorn has been good for us (2 and 3.5 year old). Also got a seat for over the toilet. My 2 yo has become interested and is going in the potty chair occasionally now. I decided not to push it with him and go with his flow as to when he's ready. My daughter started going potty in the toilet/ potty chair when she was about 15 months, but went through a lot of struggling and time before she was fully trained or going regularly. Is different for every child though. You just have to find what works for them and nothing wrong with encouraging if they are showing interest and seem ready.

My oldest daughter started out with a regular one that you can move from room to room. We also bought just the plain little toilet seat that you can put on the toilet (although Dora would be cute!). However, with my second daughter I skipped the whole potty chair thing and just had her sit on the big potty with the little seat, since cleaning out the moveable ones can be so gross. She had no problems with that and just got potty trained last week. We keep a stool in the bathroom so she can reach the potty and the sink to wash her hands.
It may have been easier with the second child though, since she could see her big sister go and didn't even know that the little potty chairs existed. Good luck!

Hi Kristi:

I've tried the floor potty chairs and they were unsuccessful. What worked for my family was the over the toilet seat potty chair.....one played music while my daughters sat on it. You could try the Dora over the toilet seat. And give her a special new book to look at while she sits on the toilet, just to introduce her to the process of going potty.

Some children are very excited about going potty and others have no interest what so ever with the potty.

Start by introducing her to the concept of sitting on the potty and keep a stool by her feet, so she can practice getting up to the toilet and getting herself down from the toilet.

Potty training is a whole new concept, fun along with frustrating....best of luck with it!!

My son has the Baby Bjorn potty chair. Works very well, comes in different colors and is sturdy.
