My husband & I are racing to find some awesome campsites for our first tenting experience with our son. He believes facebook will be faster & better. Please help me prove him wrong. ;) really, we're just looking for some good ideas on family friendly campsites. Not potty trained yet, so no concerns there.

What can I do next?

Baker Park Reserve is wonderful. Nice grassy sites, paved walking trails, great playground & a great beach. Just West of Plymouth, North of Maple Plain (West Metro).
Part of the 3 Rivers District. Highly recommended.

Whitewater State Park is great! We took our 5 year old and three year old twins there and they loved it. There's a great beach and lots of pretty hikes. You may have trouble reserving a site at this point but they leave many open for walk-ins which you can get if you show up early. Good luck and have fun!

Kamp Dels in Watertown or Waterville, can't remember which. Only a 1 hour drive. Pony rides, pool, waterpark with interactive stuff a 2 1/2 year old would like, mini golf, shuffleboard. Daily special activities, baseball field and basketball courts. two playgrounds, one of them definitely your son could enjoy, the other might be a little big. A lake with pontoon rentals and fishing, an arcade and camp store, kids movies at night. FUN!

Depending on how far away you wish to go, there are several that I can recommend. Nearby, I would recommend Lake Elmo park reserve or William O'Brien. Both are nice and close. If you wish to travel out a ways, there is a campground in Northern WI about 30 min south of Superior called Pattison State Park and otherwise if you wish to go south west, there is a state park on the SD/ MN border called Split Rock Creek that we took our 6 month old to last summer. What I like about each of these that are further away and we've camped at with our little ones is that the tent areas are a ways away from the water/ swimming beach, so you don't have to worry about wandering children when you are trying to cook dinner. Both of them are extremely clean. The 2 campgrounds closer to the Cities, we have not camped with with children, so I don't know- but they are clean and look very accomadating!
